Science and industry join forces in a new research project in Germany aimed at making Industry 4.0 simple

(PRESS RELEASE) SAARBRÜCKEN, Germany, 16-Nov-2022 — /EuropaWire/ — The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), one of the world’s largest nonprofit contract research institutes for software technology based on artificial intelligence, has announced that it is one of the 13 partners from science and industry that joined forces in a new research project in Germany aimed at making Industry 4.0 simple. The project called “BaSys4Transfer” will work towards implementing an Industry 4.0 toolbox in engineering solutions with focus on the open-source Industry 4.0 middleware Eclipse BaSyx. 

The goal: to make Industry 4.0 simple! Led by the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering IESE in Kaiserslautern, the project builds on the successful work and results of the previous funded projects BaSys 4.0 and BaSys 4.2. In this third project, the middleware, which is currently being successfully used primarily by early adopters, is to be made fit for widespread use. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding the new project over three years with a sum of 6.7 million euros.
