(PRESS RELEASE) MAINZ, 21-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — SCHOTT Pharma, a global leader in advanced drug containment and delivery systems, has unveiled the first-ever 5.5 ml prefillable staked-needle glass syringe, a major milestone in large-volume drug delivery innovation. Part of the company’s syriQ BioPure® glass syringe platform, the new format is designed to meet the growing need for safe, precise, and patient-friendly administration of complex biologic treatments outside clinical settings. The syringe is fully compatible with Ypsomed’s YpsoMate® 5.5 ml large-volume autoinjector, giving patients the freedom to self-administer therapies conveniently and comfortably at home.

The introduction of this new syringe comes amid a rising global demand for large-volume injectable solutions, driven by advances in biologics and a shift toward home-based treatment models for chronic conditions such as cancer, autoimmune disorders, and neurological diseases. The 5.5 ml syringe provides pharmaceutical manufacturers with a ready-to-use containment solution that combines scalability, device compatibility, and high safety standards — enabling faster development and commercialization of next-generation drugs.

“This expansion of our BioPure® platform marks a turning point in the evolution of large-volume drug delivery,” said Andreas Reisse, CEO of SCHOTT Pharma. “By offering pharma companies reliable, device-ready options for self-administration, we’re helping accelerate the shift toward homecare, where patients can safely receive complex treatments with confidence and comfort.”

Engineered for sensitive biologics, the syringe maintains ultra-low tungsten content to prevent drug interaction and degradation throughout its shelf life. It ensures precise dosing, smooth integration with automated systems, and long-term stability of biologic formulations. In addition to compatibility with Ypsomed’s YpsoMate® 5.5 ml autoinjector, the syringe also works seamlessly with Datwyler’s latest plunger technologies, providing flexibility for a wide range of injectable drugs and delivery devices.

Ulrike Bauer, Chief Business Officer at Ypsomed, praised the collaboration’s impact on advancing patient-friendly technologies:

“By integrating SCHOTT Pharma’s new large-volume syringe into our YpsoMate® 5.5 autoinjector, we’re enabling the next stage of biologic therapy innovation. This partnership strengthens our commitment to delivering advanced, intuitive injection systems that meet both clinical and patient needs while accelerating market readiness for large-volume treatments.”
