Company expands presence in Singapore through new software investments and headquarters set-up for its East Asia region operations. Total investment is around 65 million euros over the few next years.

SINGAPORE, 19-10-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management and automation, today announced that it will make significant new investments to strengthen its presence in Singapore. The company will cumulatively invest around 65 million euros over the next few years to establish a Software Industry Solutions Center and a Software Regional Hub, a new East Asia headquarter and a Regional Control Tower for Network Logistics, Analytics and Transportation in Singapore.

“Schneider Electric is pleased to expand its substantial operations in Singapore with new investments committed to support the country with energy management, automation and software technologies, helping make it an exemplary smart city with smart industries and smart datacenters”, said Jean-Pascal Tricoire, Chairman and CEO of Schneider Electric. “Singapore is a key knowledge and innovation hub in the Asia Pacific region. By basing our Software Industry Solutions Center and Software Regional Hub in Singapore, we want to take advantage of the country’s research capabilities and competitive ecosystem. We also value Singapore’s strong protection of intellectual property. This is an ideal location to set up our new solutions center that will address the challenges that the cloud and data center industry faces in Asia.”

Supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the Software Industry Solutions Center will help chemicals, food and beverage, mining and metals, oil and gas, transportation, water and waste water, and utilities companies leverage Schneider Electric’s market leading industrial software portfolio to enhance their productivity, improve safety and boost sustainable performance. At peak capacity, expected to be reached by 2018, the center will employ more than 60 research scientists and engineers with deep experience in industry and technology, to develop and deliver software solutions to solve industrial companies’ most critical issues. The center will also feature a Customer Experience Center, where Schneider Electric’s solutions and capabilities will be showcased.

“Schneider Electric is one of the leading engineering companies globally. We are pleased that Schneider Electric is leveraging Singapore’s technological competencies to establish its Software Industry Solutions Center, the first of its kind for the company. This re-affirms Singapore’s position as the leading controls and automation center in Asia.  Schneider Electric’s new East Asia headquarters and supply chain management functions are also testament to Singapore’s position as the hub for international companies to orchestrate their market growth in the region,” said Dr Beh Swan Gin, Chairman, EDB.

Schneider Electric’s new East Asia Headquarters in Singapore will oversee the company’s operations in ASEAN, Korea, Taiwan and Mongolia, helping the company to attract and develop the best talent to drive innovation and make energy safe, reliable, efficient, sustainable and connected across the region, to ensure that Life Is On everywhere for everyone and at every moment. The East Asia Leadership Team will be headed by Tommy Leong, an industry veteran who has held multiple senior leadership positions in Asia-Pacific and Greater China.

In addition, Schneider Electric Global Supply Chain’s already established logistics and network design team in Singapore will be expanded to handle regional control tower activities for logistics and network design, data analytics and global transportation. This control tower will deepen its capabilities in Singapore to address supply chain optimisation needs for its products within the region and beyond.

Schneider Electric has been present in Singapore since the 1970s (as Telemecanique Far East Co and subsequently renamed to Schneider Electric in the 1990s). The company’s products, systems and solutions can be found in many of the country’s major infrastructure projects including the Singapore Sports Hub, the Esplanade – Theatres by the Bay, Changi Airport, the Kranji Newater Plant, and PowerGrid.
