(PRESS RELEASE) RUEIL-MALMAISON, 17-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Schneider Electric, a global leader in digital energy management and automation, has announced its acquisition of a controlling stake in Motivair Corporation, a renowned provider of advanced liquid cooling solutions. This strategic move strengthens Schneider Electric’s position in the growing data center market, especially as demand for high-efficiency cooling solutions accelerates with the rise of Generative AI and large-scale data processing. As data centers increasingly require more effective cooling systems, particularly liquid cooling, this acquisition enhances Schneider’s portfolio by adding Motivair’s cutting-edge technologies, including Coolant Distribution Units, Rear Door Heat Exchangers, and Cold Plates, which are crucial for managing the high heat generated by modern computing environments.

Motivair, headquartered in Buffalo, NY, has built a reputation for its expertise in cooling supercomputers, and in recent years, the company has seen double-digit growth as it expands into broader data center and AI applications. With Schneider Electric acquiring 75% of Motivair for $850 million, the partnership is expected to position both companies at the forefront of data center cooling innovation. Motivair will continue operating under the leadership of its current President and CEO, Rich Whitmore, who expressed excitement about scaling the company’s operations alongside Schneider’s resources and expertise.

Peter Herweck, CEO of Schneider Electric, highlighted the significance of this acquisition in furthering the company’s leadership within the data center industry. He emphasized that Motivair’s advanced liquid cooling technologies complement Schneider’s existing offerings, enhancing their ability to provide complete end-to-end solutions for data centers, from power distribution to chip cooling. This acquisition is expected to bolster Schneider’s market presence, especially in the AI-driven data center segment, which has seen increasing demand for efficient cooling technologies.

The transaction is set to close in the coming quarters, pending regulatory approval, and will integrate Motivair into Schneider Electric’s Energy Management business. The deal is also expected to drive continued growth in Schneider’s data center business, which has experienced double-digit growth since 2017, serving top global cloud and service providers.
