Schindler Partners With BXP to Modernize Elevators at Iconic Manhattan Tower

Located at 767 Fifth Avenue on the southeast corner of Central Park, the 50-story skyscraper is owned by BXP and occupies a full city block in New York City.

Completed in 1968, the General Motors Building remains an iconic address in Manhattan’s commercial real estate market.

The modernization of its vertical transportation systems will support the continued upgrade of the building’s premium tenant amenities.

Schindler’s scope of work includes a full overhaul of the elevator systems.

The project will cover the modernization of the original machines and core mechanical components, along with the installation of new controllers and upgraded electronic infrastructure.

The company will also integrate Schindler PORT, its advanced destination dispatch system, into the building.

The system is designed to improve traffic management, reduce waiting times and enhance passenger comfort.

It will also support additional building security through features such as secure floor access.

Vikén Martarian, member of Schindler’s Group Executive Committee with responsibility for the Americas region and the Escalators segment, said the partnership with BXP will significantly upgrade vertical mobility systems at one of New York’s most prominent addresses.
