Schaeffler to Highlight Sustainable Innovations at bauma 2025 for the Construction Equipment Industry

(IN BRIEF) Schaeffler will demonstrate its cutting-edge products for the construction equipment sector at bauma 2025, showcasing technologies aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing total cost of ownership. Highlights include low-friction rolling bearings, Ewellix electromechanical linear actuators, and highly efficient electric motors designed for the transition to cleaner, more sustainable construction equipment.

(PRESS RELEASE) SCHWEINFURT, 18-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — At bauma 2025 in Munich, Schaeffler will present its comprehensive range of innovations aimed at transforming the construction equipment industry with a focus on sustainability and efficiency. The Motion Technology Company’s exhibit will feature products ranging from rolling bearings to Ewellix electromechanical linear actuators, sensors, and high-performance electric motors—technologies that aim to streamline operations, reduce energy consumption, and lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for construction equipment manufacturers.

Central to Schaeffler’s strategy for decarbonizing the construction sector is the electrification of machinery. Patrick Scherr, Global Sector Lead for Offroad at Schaeffler, emphasized the company’s mission: “We aim to deliver products and solutions that make motion smarter, cleaner, and safer. Our diverse and innovative product portfolio is designed to support construction equipment manufacturers as they transition to more sustainable operations.”

One of Schaeffler’s key innovations for the industry is its series of high-efficiency electric motors. Designed specifically for off-road applications, these motors cover all common voltage ranges up to 800 V and are capable of achieving continuous power outputs of up to 300 kW. These motors, with their high power density and energy efficiency, are vital components in advancing the shift to electric mobility within the construction sector and reducing CO₂ emissions.

A standout product at the Schaeffler booth will be the oil-cooled electric motors, which boast an impressive efficiency rate of over 97% across a wide range of speeds, with a maximum output of 219 kW and a top speed of 10,500 rpm. These motors have been tailored for demanding, heavy-duty applications, further underscoring Schaeffler’s commitment to providing efficient and sustainable solutions for construction equipment.

In addition to electric motors, Schaeffler will highlight its Ewellix electromechanical linear actuators. These modular actuators offer a precise, energy-efficient alternative to hydraulic cylinders and are ideal for a variety of construction equipment, including excavators, wheel loaders, and mobile work platforms. Available in a range of nominal forces and travel distances, the actuators can handle everything from small adjustments to large, automated movements of engine hoods or flaps. Their efficient design and extended maintenance intervals help reduce TCO and enhance overall machine performance.

Schaeffler’s low-friction rolling bearings are another key offering in its bid to improve energy efficiency across the sector. These bearings, including optimized tapered roller bearings, provide significant energy savings by reducing friction in critical components such as hydraulic motors and pumps. In fact, extrapolated across 1,000 construction machines operating eight hours per day, these high-performance bearings could save approximately 26,000 MWh annually—equivalent to the average energy consumption of more than 6,500 households.

Schaeffler’s focus on innovation is designed not only to drive down operating costs but also to contribute to global sustainability goals by reducing energy use and emissions within the construction industry.
