Scania Unveils Three-Axle Electric Bus Chassis to Expand E-Mobility into Intercity and Suburban Routes

(IN BRIEF) Scania has launched a new 6×2*4 battery-electric bus chassis variant, expanding its e-mobility platform to support city, suburban, and short intercity routes. Featuring an upgraded e-machine, rear axle system, and charging options, the three-axle design offers increased capacity, durability, and operational flexibility. With enhancements that reduce tyre wear, boost energy efficiency, and simplify maintenance, this latest electric variant helps operators extend electrified transport beyond urban settings.

(PRESS RELEASE) SÖDERTÄLJE, 17-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Scania has broadened its electric bus lineup with the launch of a new 6×2*4 low-entry battery-electric vehicle (LE BEV) chassis variant. Designed for medium and heavy-duty routes, this three-axle platform builds on the foundation introduced in 2023, offering greater passenger capacity and new rear axle innovations that make it well-suited for city, suburban, and short intercity applications.

Equipped with Scania’s recently introduced high-performance e-machine and a new fast-charging interface, the 6×2*4 variant is engineered for durability, energy efficiency, and adaptability. The upgraded rear axle system includes faster gear ratios and a redesigned steered tag axle positioned behind the half shaft, providing enhanced weight distribution, reduced tyre wear, and smoother maneuverability.

The enhanced chassis also incorporates noise-dampening features, a stiffer sub-frame, and optimised component placement—improvements that deliver quieter, more comfortable rides and simplified maintenance. These features contribute to longer service life, lower operational costs, and improved uptime for operators looking to electrify routes that extend beyond dense urban centers.

“This three-axle variant with our new e-machine delivers the energy efficiency and power needed for challenging conditions, including steep inclines,” said Carl-Johan Lööf, Head of Product Management for People Transport Solutions at Scania. “With expanded charging flexibility and more power options, we’re enabling operators to tailor vehicles to local needs and accelerate the transition to sustainable transport.”

By bridging the gap between urban and regional operations, the new 6×2*4 LE BEV reinforces Scania’s commitment to delivering scalable, future-ready e-mobility solutions worldwide.
