Scania Launches New Scania Dynamic Truck Update With Improved Energy Efficiency, Aerodynamics, Driver Comfort and Safety Across Powertrains

(IN BRIEF) Scania has introduced Scania Dynamic, a comprehensive update for its R- and S-series trucks designed to improve energy efficiency, driver comfort, visibility, safety and everyday usability across battery-electric and combustion-engine powertrains. The update can reduce total energy consumption by around 2%, depending on vehicle specification and operation, through aerodynamic improvements including digital rear-view mirrors, extended side skirts, redesigned A-pillars, new door handles and a protruding front supporting Increased Vehicle Dimension legislation. Driver-focused enhancements include revised interior materials, curtains made from 100% recycled material, wall and ceiling panels containing 70% recycled material, upgraded seats, an optional 800 mm reclining bed and expanded ambient lighting. Scania has also introduced improved headlamps and assistance functions including Safe Stop Assist, Forward Distance Alert, Vulnerable Road User, Speed Sign Cruise Control and Curve Speed Cruise Control. Digital rear-view mirrors provide full-HD displays and multiple viewing modes, while smaller usability improvements include a 15 W magnetic wireless charger and an external ventilated glove-storage tray. Scania positions Dynamic as another step in its continuous-improvement strategy for efficient and driver-focused transport.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 15-Sep-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Scania has introduced Scania Dynamic, a comprehensive update for its R- and S-series trucks that combines aerodynamic improvements, a redesigned driver environment, enhanced visibility and new assistance functions to reduce energy consumption and improve everyday vehicle operation across both battery-electric and combustion-engine powertrains.

The new Scania Dynamic is designed around the company’s continuous-improvement approach, with individual refinements across the exterior, cab and driver-support systems contributing to greater overall efficiency, comfort and usability.

One of the principal benefits is an estimated 2% reduction in total energy consumption, depending on vehicle specification and operating conditions. Scania achieves the improvement through a series of aerodynamic modifications including digital rear-view mirrors, extended side skirts, redesigned A-pillars, new door handles and a protruding front designed to support Increased Vehicle Dimension legislation.

For combustion-engine trucks, reduced energy consumption can translate into lower fuel usage, while battery-electric vehicles can achieve lower electricity consumption and make more efficient use of onboard battery energy. For operators, Scania said the combined benefits can contribute to lower running costs and reduced emissions.

Christian Levin, President and CEO of Scania and TRATON Group, said the company intends to maintain the premium position of its truck offering by continuously improving established technologies and vehicle features. He said Scania Dynamic advances both the driver environment and energy efficiency while building on systems that already perform effectively in customer operations.

Digital rear-view mirrors are among the most visible exterior changes. Replacing conventional mirrors helps lower aerodynamic drag while also providing drivers with additional viewing options during normal driving, reversing and manoeuvring in restricted spaces.

The system uses two full-HD displays, positioned on the driver and passenger sides, with standard, zoom and wide-angle viewing modes. Adjustable vertical reference lines with distance measurements provide additional support during manoeuvring.

The camera lenses have been positioned to reduce exposure to dirt and incorporate heating to help prevent fogging and the accumulation of ice or snow, supporting visibility in challenging weather conditions.

Scania Dynamic also introduces significant changes inside the cab. A revised colour scheme and new materials are intended to create a more modern working environment while increasing the use of recycled content.

The curtains are made from 100% recycled material, while wall and ceiling panels contain 70% recycled material. Scania has also introduced new textiles for the beds, rear wall and ceiling together with updated seat upholstery as it continues efforts to increase recycled content and reduce the environmental impact associated with cab materials.

The seat range has been redesigned in response to new safety requirements concerning headrests while also improving ergonomics and comfort.

For rest periods, customers can select a new 800 mm reclining bed, with a back section adjustable to an angle of up to 60 degrees, providing drivers with greater flexibility when resting inside the cab.

Scania has also expanded its interior lighting system across several equipment levels. Options range from functional white lighting to Ambient+, which provides a selection of solid colours and lighting themes, including a northern lights-inspired setting. The system allows drivers to select brighter functional illumination during work activities or create a calmer environment during rest periods.

Lars Gustafsson, Senior Vice President and Head of Solutions Management at Scania, said the cab improvements are designed around the needs of professional drivers who spend extended periods working and resting in their vehicles.

He said a comfortable and intuitive working environment can support concentration, reduce fatigue and contribute to safer operations as well as improving the overall driver experience.

Exterior lighting has also been upgraded. The latest headlamps provide an extended high-beam range, a wider and brighter light pattern and improved low-beam performance.

Automatic high beam adjusts illumination while avoiding unnecessary disturbance to other road users, supporting visibility during night-time driving, through curves and when approaching oncoming traffic.

Scania Dynamic also incorporates a range of driver-assistance functions intended to reduce workload and support safer everyday operation.

These include Safe Stop Assist, Forward Distance Alert and Vulnerable Road User functions, together with Speed Sign Cruise Control and Curve Speed Cruise Control.

Scania emphasises that these technologies are designed to support rather than replace the driver, providing additional assistance during demanding operating conditions while responsibility for the vehicle remains with the person behind the wheel.

The update extends to smaller features intended to improve daily working conditions. A new 15 W magnetic wireless charger holds a smartphone securely while allowing air circulation beneath the device to reduce heat build-up during charging.

An external glove hanger tray provides ventilated storage for wet or dirty work gloves outside the main cab, helping them dry while reducing dirt and moisture inside the driver environment.

The combination of aerodynamic, ergonomic and digital improvements is intended to make Scania Dynamic applicable across a wide range of transport operations and powertrain configurations.

Scania said its approach is based on refining individual aspects of the vehicle rather than relying on a single major technological change. By combining reduced aerodynamic resistance, improved energy efficiency, upgraded driver assistance and a more comfortable cab, the company aims to provide measurable operational benefits while maintaining flexibility across different transport assignments.

According to Gustafsson, Scania Dynamic demonstrates how continuous product development can help transport operators reduce energy use, improve daily vehicle operation and select configurations suited to individual assignments while giving drivers a more modern and supportive working environment.
