Sampo’s Christmas donation to support HelsinkiMissio

13-12-2012 — /europawire.eu/ — Sampo plc’s yearly Christmas donation will be used to help families through HelsinkiMissio’s ‘Save a Generation’ project. The donated sum is EUR 10,000.

– As a result of our campaign, in just over a month we have been contacted by more than 100 volunteers willing to help. In order to guarantee hundreds of new support persons for families during this multi-year project, we require continuous funding to recruit, train and guide volunteers. With this donation, we will be able to block many of the paths that lead to the marginalization of children, says Olli Valtonen, Managing Director of HelsinkiMissio.

HelsinkiMissio’s ‘Save a Generation’ project sees a non-governmental organization and the public sector join forces to prevent the marginalisation of children. The goal is to prevent families’ challenges from turning into problems by harnessing the support offered by volunteers. HelsinkiMissio’s partners in the project are the City of Helsinki’s Social Services Department, the Helsinki Deaconess Institute and The Single Parents’ Association.

– With its volunteers, HelsinkiMissio carries out significant work to prevent marginalisation. Sampo wants to help out in these efforts by supporting HelsinkiMissio’s ‘Save a Generation project’, says Jarmo Salonen, Sampo’s Head of Investor Relations and Group Communications.

Sampo plc has traditionally donated the money reserved for Christmas gifts to charitable organizations, in support of the work they carry out for the public good.
