RWE’s Rabbit’s Foot Solar Project to Support Meta Clean Energy Goals and Deliver Bowie County Economic Benefits

(IN BRIEF) RWE and Meta have signed a new long-term corporate power purchase agreement for the 298 MWac Rabbit’s Foot Solar project in Bowie County, northeast Texas. The project began onsite construction earlier in 2026 and is expected to begin commercial operations by the end of 2027, with the electricity supporting Meta’s goal of matching its operations with 100% clean energy. The agreement is the fourth PPA between RWE and Meta since 2024, following the Emily Solar project in Illinois, the Lafitte Solar project in Louisiana and the Waterloo Solar facility in Texas. Together, the companies now have agreements covering 872 MW. Rabbit’s Foot Solar is expected to create nearly 200 local construction jobs and generate around $50 million in tax revenues over 40 years for Bowie County, the DeKalb Independent School District, Texarkana College and Emergency District #6. The agreement also supports RWE’s broader US growth strategy, which includes plans to invest €17 billion net by 2031 and expand its installed US capacity to 22 GW.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 12-Jun-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — RWE and Meta have signed a new long-term corporate power purchase agreement for electricity generated by the Rabbit’s Foot Solar project in northeast Texas, further expanding a clean energy partnership that has grown across several US solar projects since 2024.

The 298 MWac Rabbit’s Foot Solar project is located in Bowie County, Texas, and began onsite construction earlier in 2026. Once operational, the project will supply electricity under the agreement with Meta, supporting the company’s goal of matching its operations with 100% clean energy. Commercial operations are expected to begin by the end of 2027.

The agreement marks the fourth power purchase agreement signed between RWE and Meta since 2024. The companies have previously entered into PPAs for projects totalling 574 MW, including the 274 MW Emily Solar project in Illinois, the 100 MW Lafitte Solar project in Louisiana and the 200 MW Waterloo Solar facility in Texas. With the addition of Rabbit’s Foot Solar, RWE and Meta now have agreements covering 872 MW signed over the past two years.

The project is also expected to deliver local economic benefits in Bowie County. RWE said Rabbit’s Foot Solar is expected to create nearly 200 local construction jobs and generate approximately $50 million in long-term tax revenues over 40 years. These revenues are expected to support Bowie County, the DeKalb Independent School District, Texarkana College and Emergency District #6.

Ingmar Ritzenhofen, Chief Commercial Officer at RWE Americas, said the partnership with Meta continues to grow as the companies work together to deliver reliable power that supports Meta’s energy commitments. He said the Rabbit’s Foot Solar agreement shows how collaboration can drive economic growth and community benefits, including local jobs and tax revenues for schools, technical education programmes, emergency services, road maintenance and infrastructure improvements.

Amanda Yang, Head of Clean and Renewable Energy at Meta, said the Rabbit’s Foot Solar project will bring new generation to the Texas grid while creating local jobs and delivering lasting economic benefits to Bowie County. She said Meta is proud to deepen its collaboration with RWE through the expanded portfolio.

The announcement was accompanied by a visual highlighting the companies’ fourth solar power deal, featuring the RWE and Meta partnership and a map marker identifying the project’s Texas location.

RWE operates a diversified US generation portfolio of approximately 13 GW across solar, onshore wind and battery storage in 27 states. By 2031, the company plans to invest €17 billion net in the United States, representing nearly half of its planned global investment volume of €35 billion.

Through this US investment programme, RWE aims to add 9 GW of new generation capacity and increase its installed capacity in the country to 22 GW. In addition to expanding wind, solar and battery storage, RWE also plans to build flexible generation, with a focus on flexible gas peaking capacity, to further strengthen its US portfolio.

The Rabbit’s Foot Solar PPA reflects rising corporate demand for renewable electricity and underscores the role of long-term power purchase agreements in supporting new clean energy generation, local economic development and grid expansion in key US markets.
