RWE Secures Long-Term Solar Power Deals with Meta to Boost Renewable Energy Supply in the U.S.

(IN BRIEF) RWE has signed two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Meta to supply clean energy from two solar farms under construction in the U.S., with a combined capacity of 374 megawatts. These solar projects, located in Illinois and Louisiana, are set to be operational by late 2025 and will help Meta achieve its goal of operating entirely on renewable energy. This collaboration aligns with RWE’s strategy to expand its U.S. renewables portfolio and support the increasing demand for clean energy from technology companies like Meta.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 14-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — RWE has secured two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Meta to provide clean energy from two solar farms with a combined capacity of 374 megawatts. These solar projects, currently under construction in Illinois and Louisiana, will contribute to Meta’s goal of operating entirely on renewable energy. The 274 MWac County Run Solar in Illinois and the 100 MWac Lafitte Solar in Louisiana, which marks RWE’s first renewables project in the state, are both expected to be operational by late 2025.

Andrew Flanagan, CEO of RWE Clean Energy, highlighted the importance of such partnerships with technology companies like Meta, which are instrumental in driving the demand for renewable energy. He emphasized that these projects are part of RWE’s broader strategy to expand its U.S. renewables portfolio, support decarbonization, and contribute to economic growth and job creation in local communities.

Urvi Parekh, Head of Renewable Energy at Meta, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting that bringing new solar energy projects online is central to Meta’s strategy for energy procurement and commitment to matching 100% of its electricity use with renewable energy.

These agreements reflect RWE’s ongoing strategy to collaborate with technology giants like Meta to meet the growing demand for clean energy solutions.
