RWE commissions five new renewable projects in France delivering 83 MW of clean energy for 40,000 households

(IN BRIEF) RWE has strengthened its renewable energy portfolio in France by commissioning four new wind farms and one solar plant with a combined capacity of 83 MW. Located across Hauts-de-France, Normandy, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the projects can supply enough green power for about 40,000 households. The developments, awarded under the 2023 French energy tenders and constructed in 2024, include three new wind farms and an extension in Hauts-de-France, a two-turbine wind farm in Normandy, and a solar farm in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. CEO Katja Wünschel emphasized the importance of these projects in supporting France’s clean energy future, noting that more wind projects are already scheduled following RWE’s success in the 2024 tenders. RWE now operates 265 MW of renewable capacity in France.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN/CLICHY, 1-Sept-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — RWE has expanded its French renewables portfolio with the commissioning of four new wind farms and one solar project that together add 83 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity. Brought online over the summer months, the projects highlight RWE’s momentum in advancing France’s clean energy transition and its ability to deliver multiple large-scale developments in parallel.

The new sites are located across three French regions: Hauts-de-France, Normandy, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. In Hauts-de-France, RWE completed the Catillon-Fumechon wind farm (21.6 MW, six turbines) in the namesake municipality, the Catésis-Bois Marronnier wind farm (29.2 MW, eight turbines) across Troivilles and Reumont, and expanded the Nouvions wind farm with four additional turbines totaling 19.2 MW. In Normandy, the company brought the Ormesnil wind farm (9.6 MW, two turbines) online. Meanwhile, in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, RWE installed 7,420 modules at the Les Pierrières solar farm in Ardillières, providing 4.2 MWp of solar capacity.

Together, these plants are capable of generating enough renewable electricity to power around 40,000 French households, underlining RWE’s role as a key partner in strengthening France’s renewable energy mix. The projects stem from RWE’s successful participation in the French Energy Regulatory Commission’s 2023 onshore wind and solar tenders, with construction starting in 2024.

Katja Wünschel, CEO RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, praised the achievement: “Bringing five new projects into operation within a few weeks showcases the dedication of our French teams and the strong cooperation with local communities and partners. These projects demonstrate how wind and solar can work hand in hand to deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity. We are proud to support France in building a cleaner and more resilient energy system, and with new projects already lined up, this is only the beginning.”

Looking ahead, RWE is preparing for the next wave of French wind projects after securing 82 MW of capacity in the 2024 tenders. With a current portfolio of 265 MW of installed wind and solar capacity across the country, RWE is steadily consolidating its position as a major contributor to France’s renewable energy ambitions.
