Rheinmetall Secures Low Three-Digit Million-Euro Order to Supply 155mm Artillery Ammunition to International Customer

Rheinmetall Secures Low Three-Digit Million-Euro Order to Supply 155mm Artillery Ammunition to International Customer

(IN BRIEF) Rheinmetall has secured an international contract worth a low three-digit million-euro amount for the supply of 155mm artillery ammunition. The unnamed customer has ordered a low five-figure quantity of artillery projectiles, with production already underway and deliveries scheduled for completion in 2027. The contract was recognised in the third quarter of 2026. Rheinmetall said the projectiles are already in service with several NATO countries and can be fired from a broad range of 155mm artillery systems. The order comes as the company continues major investments in large-calibre ammunition manufacturing, including expansion of existing facilities and development of new production sites. Rheinmetall has been increasing its ammunition capacity since 2022 in response to growing international demand and plans to reach annual output of approximately 1.5 million 155mm artillery shells by 2030. The company is also expanding production capacity for propellant charges as part of its wider artillery systems and ammunition strategy.

(PRESS RELEASE) DÜSSELDORF, 15-Sep-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Rheinmetall has received a major international order for 155mm artillery ammunition, with a contract value in the low three-digit million-euro range.

The unnamed international customer has ordered a low five-figure quantity of 155mm artillery projectiles, with production already underway and completion of deliveries scheduled for 2027.

Rheinmetall said the contract was recognised in the third quarter of 2026 and reflects continued international demand for large-calibre ammunition and artillery systems.

The projectiles covered by the agreement are already in operational service with several NATO countries and are compatible with a broad range of 155mm artillery weapon systems.

According to Rheinmetall, the ammunition combines extended range with high operational effectiveness and is designed for use across different artillery platforms employing the widely adopted 155mm calibre.

The contract further strengthens Rheinmetall’s position in the artillery ammunition market as governments and armed forces increase procurement of modern ammunition and seek to rebuild and expand strategic stockpiles.

The Düsseldorf-based technology group is continuing to invest in additional manufacturing capacity for 155mm artillery shells and propellant charges, both by expanding established production facilities and developing new manufacturing sites.

Rheinmetall has significantly increased its focus on ammunition capacity since 2022, responding to growing requirements for large-calibre ammunition from customers in Europe and other international markets.

The company aims to achieve annual production capacity of approximately 1.5 million 155mm artillery shells by 2030, which would substantially increase its ability to supply customers over the remainder of the decade.

The production expansion encompasses both projectiles and the associated propellant systems needed to support modern artillery operations.

Rheinmetall describes itself as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of large-calibre ammunition and has positioned the expansion of artillery ammunition capacity as a major component of its broader defence manufacturing strategy.

The latest contract adds to Rheinmetall’s international order portfolio and demonstrates continuing demand for ammunition that can be employed across widely fielded 155mm weapon systems.

With production already started and deliveries expected to conclude during 2027, the order will contribute to the utilisation of Rheinmetall’s expanding ammunition manufacturing network as the company continues preparing for higher long-term production volumes.
