Rheinmetall Advances 155mm Ammunition Production as New Niedersachsen Plant Supplies Ukraine

(IN BRIEF) Rheinmetall has delivered 155mm artillery ammunition to Ukraine from its Unterlüß site for the first time. The delivery includes a low five-figure quantity of RH1412 projectiles from the new Werk Niedersachsen plant, along with propellant charges from other Rheinmetall locations. More than half of the order has already been delivered, with the remaining projectiles and propellant charges expected to follow by the end of 2026. Rheinmetall said the RH1412 projectile is compatible with various 155mm weapon systems and offers long range and high effectiveness. The company continues to expand its large-calibre ammunition production capacity and aims to manufacture around 1.5 million 155mm artillery projectiles annually by 2030.

(PRESS RELEASE) DÜSSELDORF, 15-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Rheinmetall has begun delivering 155mm artillery ammunition to Ukraine from its Unterlüß site for the first time, marking a new stage in the company’s support for the Ukrainian armed forces.

Previous deliveries to Ukraine had come from other locations within Rheinmetall’s production network. The latest order includes a low five-figure quantity of projectiles from the new Werk Niedersachsen plant, together with propellant charges supplied from other Rheinmetall sites.

More than half of the order has already been delivered. The remaining projectiles and propellant charges are scheduled to be supplied by the end of 2026.

The delivery includes RH1412 projectiles, Rheinmetall’s latest addition to its artillery portfolio. The projectiles are compatible with various 155mm weapon systems and are designed to provide long range and high effectiveness.

Rheinmetall said the order underlines its expertise in artillery systems and its role as a leading supplier of large-calibre ammunition.

To meet growing demand for modern 155mm artillery projectiles and propellant charges, Rheinmetall continues to invest heavily in expanding existing production capacity and establishing new manufacturing sites.

The Düsseldorf-based technology group has been increasing its ammunition production capacity since 2022. Rheinmetall aims to produce around 1.5 million 155mm artillery projectiles annually by 2030.

The first delivery from Unterlüß reflects the growing importance of the Niedersachsen plant within Rheinmetall’s wider production network and its long-term strategy to increase European ammunition manufacturing capacity.
