Restart of Doel 3 and Tihange 2: Electrabel has submitted its action plan for approval by the FANC

Brussels, 19-2-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — Following the discovery of hydrogen flaking last summer in the vessels of the Doel 3 and Tihange 2 reactors, Electrabel, on December 5, 2012, submitted a justification file to the Federal Agency of Nuclear Control.

In its January 15 statement, the FANC stressed the extent and the high quality of work done by the operator on this issue. The Agency also sees no elements that would have to lead to a permanent shutdown of the nuclear power plants.
Before providing its final decision on the restart, the Agency has asked Electrabel for additional information and tests.

The FANC’s requests include conducting pressure tests in the primary circuit of Doel 3 and Tihange 2, as well as mechanical tests on the material.

Today, Electrabel submitted its action plan with a detailed planning for approval by the Agency. Electrabel will carry out the tests with the greatest rigour. According to the estimations, these tests would be realized before the end of March. The results will be submitted to the Agency.

Electrabel wishes to recall that the maximum safety of its installations is an absolute priority, with respect for the citizens, employees and environment.
