GENEVA, 26-Jul-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — On Friday, 28 September 2018, budding scientists, beginners and fans of all ages will come together for Researchers’ Night at CERN, a free and fun bilingual event.
For this great European celebration of science, the world’s biggest particle physics laboratory have opened its doors to the public each September for nine years. An excellent opportunity to share amazing scientific innovations and put on quite a show! Come and discover the background of CERN through documentaries, animations, workshops, guided tours and nocturnal exhibitions.
From 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., a myriad of animations will be offered around the brand new Esplanade des Particules, which will host its very first public event. Come and build your own particle detector (from 12 years old) and program robots (from 7 years old). Visit CERN’s first particle accelerator, the Synchrocyclotron (SC), and use our virtual reality headsets to immerse yourself into the heart of CMS detector and Data Center. Discover physics in a fun way with two spectacular and surprising shows. But above all, meet CERN researchers, who will be pleased to introduce their experiences through interactive demonstrations!
At the Globe of Science and Innovation, enjoy the exceptional surroundings to discover our selection of the latest science movies. The evening will end with a screening of the last feature film on CERN, “Almost Nothing: CERN Experimental City”, awarded at the last Nyon Visions du Réel film festival. Director Anna de Manincor will be there to share her experience and answer all your questions.
Food trucks will be available all evening to please your taste buds and quench your thirst.
If you are unable to travel to CERN, follow the event on Facebook Live and ask all your questions live! CERN researchers will show you the most surprising facets of the evening, just as TV reporters.
Free entrance, no registration required.
The event is bilingual (English-French).
