Ranieri Sabatucci formally assumed the role of Head of Delegation of the European Union to the African Union

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 09-Nov-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — Ambassador Ranieri Sabatucci presented his credentials to H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission at the Commission’s headquarters in Addis Ababa on November 3 2016, formally assuming the role of Head of Delegation of the European Union to the African Union.

During his Presentation, Ambassador Sabatucci said that “given the common continental vision of both the EU and AU with regard to regional integration, the EU is deeply committed, more than anyone else, to the success of the African Union.  In 2017, the EU will provide even further support to the Joint EU-Africa Partnership by focusing on Youth.  African and European youth face extraordinary challenges but African and European youth also represent the best opportunities for the growth and prosperity of our two continents.”

Ambassador Sabatucci is the third diplomat to hold the position of EU Ambassador to the African Union Delegation.  The EU established the first African Union dedicated diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa in 2008.

H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma recognised the EU as the largest and nearest partner to the African Union.  Dr. Zuma mentioned a lot of work had been done and recognised the considerable achievements had been made together and she emphasised the importance of the next EU-Africa Summit in 2017.
