PwC announces the appointment of Niloufar Molavi as its new global energy (oil and gas) leader

  • Niloufar to lead 6,000-strong global team of energy specialists operating worldwide
  • A key driver of PwC US’s diversity programme, Niloufar now leads a team that includes six female energy leaders across PwC network
  • Implications of energy transformation will be profound for countries and companies

LONDON, 21-Jun-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — Niloufar Molavi has been announced as PwC’s new global energy (oil and gas) leader

With a PwC career spanning over 25 years, Niloufar was promoted to partner in 2001. She joined the firm’s U.S. Leadership team eight years later and took on the role of US energy leader in 2011. A tax specialist, she has worked with a wide range of energy companies both in the U.S. and abroad, advising clients on international and U.S. tax structuring, mergers, acquisitions and potential public offerings.

While the global oil and gas industry has been working hard to weather strong economic and industry headwinds – from increasing competition and significant over supply in the market to oil prices dropping to as low as $30boe – it’s clear that other disruptive forces are emerging that will shape the future of the industry.

According to Niloufar, as the world continues the transition to a  more energy efficient economy fuelled by diversified sources , the implications of oil and gas transformation will be profound not just for countries but for companies operating within the energy industry as well as other business sectors. She said:

“Global demand for affordable, reliable energy will continue to grow for the foreseeable future. But there is a new longer-term backdrop that countries and the industry must swiftly and effectively adapt to as the world transitions to alternate energy sources.

“While there is an undisputed need to encourage greater collaboration between operators and service providers to drive efficiency, reduce costs, other disrupters such as digitisation, technology and data analytics are playing an increasingly significant role in this energy transformation journey.

“Those countries and operators who can demonstrate the ability to respond to these challenges by taking a long term view, innovating, adapting and gauging major trends as they define medium-long term investment plans, as well as focussing on their market-leading strengths will reap the benefits.”

Leading a pipeline of female leaders across PwC’s energy business

In 2009, Niloufar was appointed to the role of Chief Diversity Officer in the US, overseeing the firm’s diversity strategy and all of its related programs and initiatives. With this latest appointment, she becomes one of the only female global energy leaders across the ‘big 4’ and other top professional services organisations.

Demonstrating the firm’s investment in building a strong pipeline of female leaders – and to encourage gender balance across the energy industry with partnership programmes such as Igniting Change in the UK – Niloufar now leads a team boasting six female territory energy leaders1.

Taking over the reins

Niloufar succeeds Ross Hunter, who held the global role for three years and more recently led the successful integration with Strategy&, resulting in a strong, cohesive go-to-market approach for the firm’s global energy network.

Niloufar Molavi, PwC’s global energy leader, added:

“Ross Hunter has led the PwC global oil and gas team and our clients through a very turbulent economic period for the industry and I’d like to thank him for all he has done in building such a strong and successful client-focussed network.”

Notes to editors:

  1. PwC has a strong record of promoting women to oil and gas leadership roles at the territory level and to building a pipeline of future leaders. Territory leaders include: Alison Baker in the UK & EMEA; Pascale Jean in France; Nurul Ain Abdul Latif in Malaysia; Anna Elmfeldt in Sweden; Patricia Marques in Uruguay; and Somchai Jinnovart in Thailand.
