Professor Sir Steve Smith donates in support of University of Exeter’s first ever Giving Day

(PRESS RELEASE) EXETER, 22-Sep-2020 — /EuropaWire/ — The University of Exeter, a public research university, has announced that its former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Steve Smith, has supported its first ever Giving Day with a donation of £10,000 to the scholarship fund.

Sir Steve has been a regular, monthly donor to the University of Exeter since he took up the role of Vice-Chancellor in 2002, and is continuing to support in retirement through this special event.

Giving Day is a 24-hour online fundraising event in support of key areas at the University of Exeter – scholarships and bursaries, student sports and societies, health research, and environmental research. It runs from midday 22 September to midday 23 September.

Sir Steve said: “I am passionate about the power of higher education to transform lives. As the first person in my family to go to university I know the impact that it can have, and I’m keen to ensure other young people have the same opportunities that I did.

“Although I have now retired I will always be a friend of the University. I’m delighted to support this initiative and encourage anyone who can, to join me in supporting whatever you’re passionate about at Exeter.”

Every donation of every size will add up to make a big difference on Giving Day, and thanks to alumni match funding individual gifts could be worth double. To get involved visit https://givingday.exeter.ac.uk/
