Porsche Driver’s Selection launches a special “50 Years of 911” collection

Stuttgart, 17-6-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — For 50 years, the 911 has been the heart of the Porsche brand. Few other automobiles can look back on such a long tradition and this level of continuity. Since it was first unveiled at the International Motor Show (IAA) in September 1963, it has been thrilling car enthusiasts all over the world, and has now become the standard for all other sports cars. More than 820,000 Porsche 911s have been built to date, making it the most successful sports car in the world. To honour the 911 in its anniversary year, the Porsche Driver’s Selection is launching a special “50 Years of 911” collection.

The anniversary calendar takes you on a nostalgic trip back to the early years. Each month features an authentic theme from the last five decades on a 59cm by 55.5cm page, with the latest 911 Carrera 2013 model making an appearance in each scene. The 16-page calendar starts in September 2013, in time for the IAA, and continues through to December 2014.

Another of the highlights in the collection is the “50 Years of 911” trolley. Produced in a strictly limited series of 911 items, it will be a source of pleasure for car enthusiasts on every trip. On the outside, the aluminium trolley features an anniversary insignia together with various leather details creating a clear early 1960s look. The houndstooth lining has been produced exclusively from the original seat material used for the Porsche “50 Years of 911” anniversary model. The wheels of the cabin-bag size trolley (IATA recommendation 2012) are inspired by the “Fuchs” wheels on the legendary F models.

Also available in a limited edition are the “50 Years of 911” sculpture and radiator grille insignia. Made from premium die-cast aluminium, the solid sculpture depicts the distinctive lines of the iconic 911 sports car: round headlights, low-slung bonnet, sloping fly-line that flows over the rear wheels, emphasising the point at which the 911 delivers its power to the road. The 911 sculpture is around 30 centimetres long and rests on a glass base with a limited edition insignia. The radiator grille badge, approximately ten centimetres in diameter, continues a long-standing tradition and provides a striking visual reminder of the 50-year history of the Porsche 911 with coloured enamel inserts.

For short trips, the calf leather weekender bag, with a houndstooth pattern along the zip, is spacious enough to cater for a whole range of occasions, with a generous main compartment and two zipped pockets on the sides. It is ideally complemented by a calf leather wash bag, also featuring a houndstooth pattern reminiscent of the launch year of the iconic 911 sports car. If you decide to stop off along the way, the 130 by 150 centimetre retro-look travel blanket with a waterproof underside is ideal for a break. While the “50 Years of 911” chronograph, produced in a limited series of 1,963 pieces, makes sure that you never lose track of the time. The black quartz chronograph with a leather strap measures 43 millimetres in diameter and comes with a 1:43 scale model of the Porsche 911 (1963 model) in geyser grey metallic.

All of these items, as well as more products from the “50 Years of 911” collection and the Porsche Driver’s Selection, are available in Porsche centres around the world and online at www.porsche.com/shop. Not all products are available worldwide.
