Poland’s Ministry of State Treasury places Grupa Azoty on the list of strategic enterprises

Tarnów, Poland, 12-8-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — On August 5th 2014, the Ministry of State Treasury announced that Grupa Azoty had been placed on the list of strategic enterprises.

Below is presented the full text of the announcement.

The Council of Ministers has reviewed the list of strategic enterprises submitted by the Minister of State Treasury. The list includes 22 companies.

“Grupa Azoty is considered a strategic company due to the scale of its operations, its significant impact on the Polish economy, and its enormous role for the Polish labour market. The Ministry of State Treasury has no intention to sell any shares in Grupa Azoty. The company’s strategic role is reflected in the document which I have presented today to the Council of Ministers. Documents drafted by the previous governments provided for privatisation of the Polish chemical sector. We have put a stop to these plans,” said Włodzimierz Karpiński, Minister of State Treasury.

Grupa Azoty was formed following consolidation of the Polish chemical sector. Today, it is a leader of the European fertilizer market. Grupa Azoty’s status of an enterprise of strategic importance to the Polish economy is also guaranteed by the relevant provisions of its Articles of Association and the stable structure of its long-term shareholders interested in the company’s development.

The ‘List of enterprises of strategic importance to Poland’s economy’ constitutes an appendix to the document ‘Priorities in managing enterprises supervised by the Minister of State Treasury until 2015’, whose first version was approved by the Council of the Ministry of State Treasury on April 30th 2014. The list was reviewed by the Council of Ministers on August 5th 2014. In addition to Grupa Azoty, the list includes 21 other companies playing a leading role in Poland’s reindustrialisation (in alphabetical order): Agencja Rozwoju Przemysłu, Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, Grupa LOTOS, KGHM Polska Miedź, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych, Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, Polski Koncern Naftowy ORLEN, Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo, Polskie Inwestycje Rozwojowe, Polskie Radio, Powszechna Kasa Oszczędności Bank Polski, Powszechny Zakład Ubezpieczeń, Przedsiębiorstwo Eksploatacji Rurociągów Naftowych PRZYJAŹŃ, Przedsiębiorstwo Przeładunku Paliw Płynnych NAFTOPORT, TAURON Polska Energia, Telewizja Polska, Totalizator Sportowy, Zarząd Morskich Portów Szczecin i Świnoujście, Zarząd Morskiego Portu Gdańsk, and Zarząd Morskiego Portu Gdynia.

These are companies that deliver shareholder value, play a vital role in building a strong economy in Poland, and contribute to the country’s economic security, while some of them, such as Polskie Radio and Telewizja Polska, have been recognised as strategically important in view of the mission they pursue.

The list of enterprises which fall under the supervision of the Ministry of State Treasury and which may undergo ownership transformations (such as privatisation, contribution, municipalisation or merger) includes 190 companies and businesses.
