Pirelli Partners with Hill-Climb Champion Simone Faggioli for “Set the Time” Event

(IN BRIEF) Pirelli is partnering with hill-climb champion Simone Faggioli for the first “Set the Time” event during the Rieti-Terminillo hill-climb race on August 4. Faggioli will drive a Porsche 911 (992) equipped with Pirelli’s P Zero Trofeo R tyres to set a benchmark time for road cars on the 13,450-meter course. This event aims to create a European road time record similar to the Pikes Peak event in the USA. Pirelli’s involvement highlights their commitment to integrating sports and road car technologies, and their ongoing support of Faggioli.

(PRESS RELEASE) MILAN, 3-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Pirelli is collaborating with renowned hill-climb speed champion Simone Faggioli for the inaugural “Set the Time” event, set to take place on Sunday, August 4, during the legendary Rieti-Terminillo hill-climb race. This event will determine how quickly a road car, specifically a Porsche 911 (992) driven by Faggioli, can cover the 13,450-meter route. The Rieti-Terminillo race is part of the Italian Hill-Climb Speed Championship North and South.

To support Faggioli in setting a benchmark time for a non-competition car, Pirelli will equip the Porsche 911 with its semi-slick P Zero Trofeo R tyres, designed for high-performance sports cars. This initiative aims to establish a road time record similar to the Pikes Peak event in the USA, creating a benchmark for future attempts by other brands.

Stefano Bizzi, Pirelli’s Motorsport R&D manager, expressed enthusiasm for the event: “We couldn’t miss out on this initiative. We’ve always supported Faggioli and Porsches on both road and track. Set the Time aligns with our philosophy of integrating sports and road car technologies.”

Faggioli also highlighted the importance of Pirelli’s involvement: “Having Pirelli by our side ensures top performance from the tyres and expert technical support. Set the Time offers a chance for other manufacturers to test their road cars on one of Europe’s most iconic race tracks.”

The Porsche test will occur at the end of the Rieti-Terminillo race, where Pirelli will also supply tyres for the Norma M20 FC that Faggioli drove to victory last year. Following the race, Faggioli will return to the starting point before reattempting the course in the Porsche.

Pirelli’s Trofeo R, part of the P Zero family, is a high-performance track tyre with an asymmetric pattern, designed for dry asphalt and suitable for the most powerful road cars.
