Pearson Opens London Innovation Lab to Pioneer AI and XR‑Powered Learning Solutions

(IN BRIEF) Pearson has launched a global innovation Lab in its London headquarters to spearhead research and development in Generative AI, immersive learning, and extended reality. Led by CTO Dave Treat, the Lab will co‑develop scalable educational solutions with customers and partners, including Meta for Education, Google Android XR, and Vū Technologies. Equipped with Meta Quest headsets and immersive LED displays, the space will prototype, test, and refine next‑generation learning products. (PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 16-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Pearson has inaugurated a cutting‑edge innovation hub within its London offices, designed to accelerate the development of next‑generation learning products and services driven by emerging technologies. Announced on 15 July 2025, this new Lab will operate globally, reinforcing Pearson’s commitment to lead the educational sector in applying AI, immersive experiences, and other advanced tools.

Under the leadership of Chief Technology Officer Dave Treat, the Lab’s dedicated R&D team will focus on scalable implementations of Generative AI and immersive learning solutions, addressing the evolving needs of students, teachers, and professionals alike. The team will collaborate closely with customers and strategic partners to build, test, and refine prototypes and product concepts in real‑world settings.

Several high‑profile partnerships have already been established to fuel the Lab’s work:

• Meta for Education: Through this collaboration, Pearson gains access to 150 Meta Quest 3S headsets and Meta’s XR platforms, blending Pearson’s expertise in assessment and learning science with Meta’s immersive hardware. Initial projects will explore XR’s impact on assessment design and learner outcomes, with further experiences under development.
• Google Android XR: Building on Pearson’s Google Cloud alliance, this agreement enables the Lab to port select applications to Android XR and co‑create future immersive tools for learners.
• Vū Technologies: Pearson will integrate Vū’s One System—an immersive LED display coupled with the Vū Studio software—into the Lab. Together, the teams will prototype in‑room immersive content and AI‑generated visual experiences aimed at personalising education for students and teachers.

Beyond prototype development, the Lab will serve as an interactive showcase and research venue, where customer feedback and performance data directly inform product roadmaps. Open to all Pearson employees, the space will foster upskilling, creativity, and cross‑functional collaboration to drive experimentation and continuous learning.
