Orange and Nordnet Collaborate to Provide Superfast Satellite Internet in France

(IN BRIEF) Orange, a leading telecommunications company in France, has launched the “Orange Satellite with Nordnet” offering to provide superfast broadband access across mainland France. Priced at €49.99 per month, this satellite-based service is aimed at customers without access to fiber or with ADSL speeds below 8 Mbps. The offering, operated by Nordnet, includes unlimited data with download speeds up to 200 Mbps and upload speeds up to 15 Mbps. Subscribers receive a Satellite Kit, which can be self-installed or set up with Nordnet’s assistance. This initiative aligns with the French government’s goal of ensuring universal access to superfast broadband by 2025 and leverages the Eutelsat Konnect VHTS satellite, Europe’s largest-ever satellite, launched in 2022. Jean-François Fallacher, CEO of Orange France, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing broadband access to all residents, regardless of their location.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 16-Nov-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Orange S.A. (EPA: ORA), a French multinational telecommunications group, is further expanding its range of high-speed broadband connectivity solutions with the launch of the “Orange Satellite with Nordnet” offering, available starting November 16, 2023. This new service enables customers across mainland France to access superfast broadband, regardless of their location, for just €49.99 per month.

Bringing Superfast Broadband to Every Corner of France

Orange is broadening its portfolio of connectivity solutions by introducing satellite technology alongside its existing offerings, which include fiber, ADSL, 4G, and 5G Home services. The new Satellite offering from Orange is specifically designed for customers who do not have access to fiber and those with ADSL connections delivering speeds of less than 8 Mbps. The service is being marketed through Orange’s distribution channels and is operated by Nordnet, a subsidiary of Orange with 15 years of expertise in satellite internet services.

For a monthly fee of €49.99 (with the first month free), customers subscribing to this satellite offering can enjoy unlimited superfast broadband with download speeds of up to 200 Mbps and upload speeds of 15 Mbps¹. Importantly, this service does not require changing phone numbers and includes unlimited landline calls within mainland France and to 50 other destinations², as well as mobile calls within mainland France and eight additional destinations.

Upon subscribing, customers will receive a Satellite Kit, which they can either install themselves or with the assistance of Nordnet’s network of specialist installation partners. The Satellite Kit can be purchased for €299 or rented for €8 per month. The installation kit option provided by Nordnet comes with a one-year warranty and costs €299.

This offering is part of the French government’s “Cohésion Numérique des Territoires” (Digital Cohesion of Regions) program and aligns with the government’s objective of ensuring access to superfast broadband (speeds exceeding 30 Mbps) for all citizens by 2025. Homes without reliable wired broadband can benefit from subsidies to access improved connectivity via wireless technology.

An Offering Supported by Expertise in the French and European Space Industry

This satellite offering is based on the Eutelsat Konnect VHTS satellite, a project designed by Thalès Alenia Space in Cannes and launched aboard an Ariane 5 rocket in September 2022. Weighing 6.5 tons and standing at a height of 9 meters, the Eutelsat Konnect VHTS satellite is the largest European satellite ever developed. It represents a new generation of electric propulsion satellites³, launched from the all-electric platform constructed by Spacebus NEO, with financial support from the European Space Agency and the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (French Space Agency).

Jean-François Fallacher, Executive Vice President and CEO of Orange France, commented,

“The launch of Orange Satellite with Nordnet is another step towards the deployment of superfast broadband for everyone, everywhere in mainland France. At Orange, we’re proud to be able to offer all our customers a superfast broadband access solution thanks to our technology mix. Our range of connectivity offers now includes satellite, in addition to 4G and 5G Home, fiber and ADSL. This new offer responds to the needs of the French population, whatever their connectivity requirements, even in the most remote areas.”

¹Offer in mainland France subject to eligibility. 12-month commitment. Maximum theoretical speeds. Details on orange.fr. €35 set-up fee & €15 equipment delivery fee

³The satellite’s environmental footprint is reduced thanks to its 100% electric propulsion, which is less polluting than previous propulsion systems using chemicals.
