NWO and Amsterdam Research Institute of the Arts and Sciences to host the Smart Culture Working Conference in Utrecht on 16 November
THE HAGUE, 16-Oct-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — On 16 November, NWO and ARIAS (Amsterdam Research Institute of the Arts and Sciences) are jointly organising the Smart Culture Working Conference in Utrecht to explore the concept of Arts, Research & Science. ‘Smart Culture’ is the name of an NWO grant programme that allows experienced researchers (from universities and universities of applied sciences) to request funding for research in the area of arts and culture.
Date: 16 November 2018
Time: 09.00 am – 05.45 pm
Location: Het Huis Utrecht, Boorstraat 107, Utrecht
This conference is not a standard meeting. Instead it has an investigative and activating character: there is an ‘Exposium’ about PhD research in the arts and four workshops that will explore the relationship between art under four themes: Art and reflection on art’, ‘Bio Art and Design’, ‘Inclusiveness & Queer community’ and ‘Art and Technology’.
This Smart Culture Working Conference displays and questions the diversity of artistic research with special attention to the four PhD projects of the NWO programme ‘PhD Research in the Arts’. NWO established this programme in 2010, in collaboration with the Mondriaan Foundation. The programme aims to support research in the arts as part of university practice. With this Exposium, delegates, the PhD candidates and PhD graduate artists, can explore what the art and science trajectory yields.
Jonas Staal, Lonnie van Brummelen, Jeremiah Day and Yvonne Dröge Wendel have each chosen an appropriate form for exhibiting their research. Four respondents will reflect on the relationship between these four research projects and the wider research field.
