Nordex Group Secures 34 MW German Repowering Order From EEF for Five N175/6.X Wind Turbines on 199-Metre Towers

Nordex Group Secures 34 MW German Repowering Order From EEF for Five N175/6.X Wind Turbines on 199-Metre Towers

(IN BRIEF) Nordex Group has secured a 34 MW order from EEF Erneuerbare Energien Fabrik GmbH for the repowering of the Rauschenberg wind farm in Hesse, Germany. The project will replace five older 3 MW wind turbines with five N175/6.X turbines rated at 6.8 MW each, while keeping the total number of turbines unchanged. The new machines will be installed on towers with a 199-metre hub height, allowing them to access stronger and more consistent wind conditions and increase electricity generation, particularly during lower-wind periods. Delivery and installation are scheduled to begin at the end of 2027, with higher output expected from summer 2028. The order also includes a 20-year Premium Service contract. EEF said the project demonstrates how repowering can increase renewable generation at established sites while supporting regional energy supply and coexistence with agriculture. Nordex highlighted the project as evidence of the potential for modern repowering to accelerate the energy transition and improve project economics. The order follows Nordex’s first German N175/6.X project using the same 199-metre hub height, announced in March 2026.

(PRESS RELEASE) HAMBURG, 14-Sep-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Nordex Group has received a 34 MW order from EEF Erneuerbare Energien Fabrik GmbH for the repowering of the Rauschenberg wind farm in Hesse, Germany, where five existing wind turbines will be replaced with five new high-performance N175/6.X turbines.

Under the contract, Nordex will supply and install five N175/6.X turbines, each configured with an output of 6.8 MW and mounted on towers with a 199-metre hub height. The agreement also includes a 20-year Premium Service contract, providing long-term maintenance and operational support for the project.

Delivery and installation of the new turbines are scheduled to begin from the end of 2027, with increased electricity production expected from summer 2028.

The project will replace five older 3 MW turbines with significantly more powerful 6.8 MW units while maintaining the same number of turbines at the site. The repowering approach is designed to substantially increase renewable electricity generation by making more efficient use of an established wind energy location.

Nordex said the combination of the N175/6.X turbine’s large rotor and the 199-metre hub height enables the machines to access stronger and more consistent wind conditions at higher altitudes. This is expected to improve energy yield and site utilisation, particularly during periods when wind speeds closer to the ground are lower.

The Rauschenberg development demonstrates how repowering can increase renewable power generation without expanding the number of turbines, allowing newer and more efficient technology to replace ageing equipment at existing sites.

Lukas Jörgens, Project Manager Rauschenberg at EEF Erneuerbare Energien Fabrik, said the project represents a new generation of wind energy development in which established sites can generate considerably more renewable electricity through modern turbine technology.

He said the project will also demonstrate how agricultural activities and renewable energy generation can coexist while contributing to regional energy supply. Jörgens highlighted the close cooperation between EEF and Nordex as an important foundation for successful project delivery.

Karsten Brüggemann, Vice President Region Europe at Nordex Group, said the Rauschenberg order illustrates the potential of modern repowering projects to accelerate the energy transition while extracting more value from existing wind sites.

He noted that the N175/6.X on 199-metre towers has been designed to achieve high energy yields even in lower-wind locations, improving the economic performance of wind projects. Brüggemann added that the order reflects continuing strong demand for Nordex’s high-performance turbines in Germany and customer confidence in the competitiveness of the company’s technology.

The Rauschenberg contract follows another German project involving the same turbine and tower configuration. In March 2026, Nordex received its first order for three N175/6.X turbines with a 199-metre hub height for a development in North Rhine-Westphalia.

With the latest 34 MW order, Nordex continues to expand deployment of its N175/6.X platform in Germany, particularly for repowering projects where larger rotors, higher hub heights and increased turbine output can substantially raise electricity production at established wind-energy sites.
