(PRESS RELEASE) EINDHOVEN, 31-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) has officially reopened its newly expanded and renovated Student Sports Center, now the largest of its kind in the Netherlands. The grand opening was marked by Olympic silver medalist and TU/e alumnus, Sander de Graaf, who highlighted the importance of the center in his journey to success. The facility, now spanning 12,500 square meters—a 25% increase in size—can accommodate up to 18,000 users, significantly boosting its capacity.

The renovation includes a major expansion of the fitness area, which has more than doubled in size, as well as new amenities like a modern group exercise room, a cycling and pole fitness studio, a Body & Mind Studio, and a dojo for martial arts. The sports center also features a new Student Sports Café, accessible to all, enhancing its role as a central social hub on campus.

TU/e President Robert-Jan Smits emphasized the crucial role of sports in maintaining the physical and mental well-being of students, particularly in light of increasing academic pressures. The revamped sports center, he noted, is set to further establish Eindhoven’s reputation as the top student sports city in the country.
