New Lloyds Funding Package Targets Affordable Housing Growth Through Small and Specialist Providers

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 6-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Lloyds Banking Group has announced a new £500 million financing commitment for smaller and specialist social housing providers, aiming to support the delivery and maintenance of affordable homes across the United Kingdom.

The commitment follows the completion of a £200 million programme launched in 2024. That initial funding is expected to support around 900 additional affordable homes in locations including Shropshire, the Black Country, Ayrshire, Orkney and Berwickshire.

Lloyds said the new commitment could enable the delivery of a further 2,000 homes, bringing the expected contribution of the two programmes to approximately 2,900 affordable homes.

The funding is intended to give smaller housing associations and specialist providers improved access to long-term capital at a time when demand for social and affordable housing remains high and many organisations face financial pressures.

The announcement was made alongside Lloyds Banking Group’s third annual Social Housing Forum, chaired by Group Chief Executive Charlie Nunn. The event brings together housing associations, investors, housebuilders, policymakers and public-sector representatives to discuss practical approaches to increasing the supply of social and affordable homes.

One organisation supported through Lloyds’ previous commitment is Golden Lane Housing, a Manchester-based specialist landlord that provides secure housing for people with learning disabilities and autistic people.

Golden Lane Housing works with people who may face significant barriers to accessing appropriate accommodation, including individuals leaving long-stay hospitals, those at risk of homelessness and people who require adapted homes to live safely and independently.

In 2025, Golden Lane Housing received a £10 million revolving credit facility from Lloyds to support the expansion of its specialist housing portfolio while maintaining its existing properties.

The new £500 million commitment forms part of Lloyds Banking Group’s wider Social Housing Initiative, which was established in 2024 to develop scalable responses to structural challenges in the housing sector.

The initiative has supported ideas and partnerships intended to increase housing delivery, including the Small Sites Aggregator model. Following an initial pilot in Bristol, Lewisham and Sheffield, the model is now expected to be expanded nationally. The government has indicated that the approach could support the development of up to 10,000 homes each year.

Lloyds Banking Group has also continued work with housing associations through its separate £500 million social housing retrofit commitment, which is partly guaranteed by the National Wealth Fund and is now almost fully allocated.

The Group remains involved with Homewards, the programme established by The Royal Foundation to demonstrate how local partnerships and cross-sector collaboration can help end homelessness.

Housing Secretary Steve Reed said increased delivery of social and affordable homes is essential to help people move out of temporary accommodation and off housing waiting lists.

The annual Social Housing Forum has become a meeting point for leaders from housing, investment, construction and government. Discussions at this year’s event are expected to focus on housing delivery, investment models, regeneration, planning and opportunities for wider collaboration to increase affordable housing supply.
