WARWICK, 01-May-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — Bedworth residents are being invited to find out more about National Grid’s £15m project to keep the lights on across Bedworth, the Midlands and beyond.

The company is putting on an information event to share the detail of the project which will see a major refurbishment of the overhead power between Hams Hall substation near Coleshill and Coventry substation near Exhall.

New wires are being installed on the pylons and all will get a fresh coat of paint. The line is part of the high voltage electricity network which carried electricity to towns and cities across the country.

The event is on from 3pm-8pm on Wednesday 3 May at Bedworth Heath Community Centre, Smorrall Lane, Bedworth, CV12 0JP. Representatives from National Grid and Balfour Beatty, the contractor, will be on hand to talk about the work. They’ll also answer any questions visitors may have about the refurbishment of 60 pylons along the 20km route.

Ben McKenzie-Williams, project manager at National Grid, said: “This upgrade is vital. It’ll ensure communities have a safe, efficient and reliable source of electricity for years to come.  Maintaining the electricity network is an important job for National Grid. Making improvements such as this will help us meet the country’s increasing demand for power.

“A full refurbishment like this happens every 40 years. As part of the work we’re replacing wires, fittings and steelwork that hold the wire in place. We’ll also paint each pylon after the refurbishment work has finished. We’ll also need to close some sections of road and footpaths temporarily between May and August. This event is part of our commitment to keep the local community informed as work progresses. We also want to give local people as much notice as possible about our timings and road and footpath closures.”

Anyone with questions about the event or the overhead power line refurbishment work can contact National Grid’s Community Relations team on 0800 073 1047, available daily from 7am and 7pm. For more information visit http://www2.nationalgrid.com/UK/In-your-area/Projects/Coleshill-Bedworth/
