(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 26-Jul-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — At this year’s Farnborough Airshow, MTU Aero Engines achieved significant success, securing approximately $800 million in orders. The orders prominently featured Pratt & Whitney’s GTF engine family, particularly for the A320neo, and the GE9X for the Boeing 777X. “The high order value demonstrates once again that aviation is a growing market and MTU participates in the right, future-oriented engine programs,” said Lars Wagner, CEO of MTU Aero Engines AG. The company is well-represented in both the narrowbody and widebody segments.

A major highlight was the order from Avolon for 80 A320neo aircraft equipped with PW1100G-JM engines. Other significant orders included leasing company SMBC Aviation Capital and SKY Airline, which will use the GTF engine for a total of 32 new A320neo family aircraft.

Demand for new-generation widebody engines was also strong. Qatar Airways ordered 20 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, exclusively powered by the GE9X. Japan Airlines, IAG, and EVA Air selected the GEnx for their 20 newly ordered Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

In the military sector, MTU saw success with the joint order from the Netherlands and Austria for nine C-390 military transporters from Embraer, powered by the V2500 engine, in which MTU holds a 16 percent stake.

MTU holds shares of between 17 and 18 percent across the GTF engine family, depending on the application. The company contributes the high-speed low-pressure turbine, parts of the high-pressure compressor, and manufactures brush seals. Additionally, MTU is responsible for the turbine center frame for GEnx and GE9X widebody engines, corresponding to program shares of 6.5 and 4 percent, respectively.
