(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 17-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — M&S has opened its largest ever standalone Food store in Godalming, Surrey, as part of its investment in bigger, more modern Foodhalls designed to help families complete more of their weekly shop in one visit.

The new 22,000 sq ft Foodhall is located at The Wharf Retail Park, Woolsack Way, on the site of a former Homebase store. It opened to customers from 8am and brings the full M&S Food range together under one roof.

The Godalming store forms part of M&S’s wider store renewal and rotation programme, focused on modernising its estate, creating larger Foodhalls and making the M&S Food offer more relevant for families.

The store showcases the latest M&S Food format, with a brighter layout, improved navigation, updated décor, new signage, wider fresh areas and upgraded tills.

Designed around modern family shopping habits, the Foodhall includes more space for customers completing larger weekly shops, improved customer flow and a broader mix of everyday essentials.

The store features wider fresh produce areas, multi-temperature zones for herbs, organic ranges and fruit, a larger in-store bakery, an enhanced cheese barge, a dedicated chicken shop, Mai Sushi, a rotisserie chicken counter and an upgraded beers, wines and spirits shop-in-shop.

A new kitchen shop has also been introduced, offering family kitchen essentials, while customers will also find floral and horticulture areas, frozen fruit, pet food, organic products and family-friendly features including mini trolleys for children.

Alongside the full M&S Food range, the Godalming store carries the full Remarksable Value range, which has expanded to 175 products. The range includes everyday shopping-list staples benchmarked against competitor prices while maintaining M&S quality, sourcing, ingredient and welfare standards.

To mark the opening, the store team welcomed customers from 8am, with celebrations including a giant inflatable Percy Pig outside the store and special Godalming tote bags for the first customers.

Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, said the company is investing in areas where family customers are asking for larger stores and stronger value.

“We’re doubling our Food business with investment where family customers are asking for it most: bigger, better stores and more trusted value on the products families buy every week,” said Freudmann.

He said Godalming is M&S Food’s biggest ever standalone store and an example of the modern, full-range Foodhalls the retailer is developing as it expands the business.

“It brings together the full M&S Food range, more space for the weekly shop and the latest store design so customers can get everything they need in one trip, without compromising on the M&S quality they expect,” he added.

Amelia Holiwell, Store Manager at M&S Godalming, said customers responded enthusiastically to the new store on opening morning.

“The team of 80 new colleagues has worked incredibly hard to get the store ready and we’re really proud to open a Foodhall that brings the very best of M&S Food to Godalming, from fresh produce and bakery to family favourites, great value and everyday essentials,” said Holiwell.

The new M&S Godalming Foodhall is located at Unit 1, The Wharf Retail Park, Woolsack Way, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1DR.

The store is open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 9pm and on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
