(PRESS RELEASE) CLERMONT-FERRAND, France, 16-Jun-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Michelin (EPA: ML), a French multinational tyre manufacturing company, has entered into a collaborative agreement with several trade unions in France to boost the professional development and career paths of its 16,000 employees in the country. The three-year agreement prioritizes internal mobility, offers personalized support for employees in sensitive positions, and revises end-of-career management. With Michelin’s strategy expanding beyond mobility and undergoing transformations such as digitalization and automation, the agreement aims to provide new perspectives and opportunities for its workforce.

Key Features of the Agreement:

  1. Reinforcing Internal Mobility: The agreement emphasizes the importance of internal professional mobility to help employees adapt to changing roles and professions. It encourages internal recruitment for newly created positions within the company, facilitating career development.
  2. Personalized Support for Sensitive Positions: Michelin will offer individualized support to employees in “sensitive positions,” including skill updates and job transition assistance. Specialized Development Partners (PDS) will assist these employees in finding new roles within the company.
  3. Revision of End-of-Career Policies: With the extension of working life in France, the agreement addresses the aspirations of employees in their final five years of work. It offers tailored end-of-career paths, allowing employees to choose between continuing an active career, transitioning into retirement gradually, or concluding their professional activities earlier.
  4. Equal Representation System: To improve employee understanding of career management tools and access to training opportunities, an equal-representation system called the Initiative Exploratoire Personnel (IEP, or Personal Exploratory Initiative) will be introduced. It will enable directors and trade unions to collaborate on effective solutions.

This agreement reflects Michelin’s commitment to enhancing professional guidance and skill development opportunities for its employees, allowing them to explore diverse career paths within the company, including their journey into retirement.

Pierre Février, Employee Relations Director in France, commented, “This agreement is the result of particularly constructive work conducted with the members of trade union delegations who participated in the negotiations. It clearly demonstrates the Group’s intention to reinforce and update its approach to professional guidance for all its employees. The objective is to assist employees in embracing an active skill development dynamic and to allow each one to harness the extensive career path possibilities offered by the company, including up to retirement.”
