METLEN’s Investment in Ghana Recognized as Key to Strengthening Europe’s Strategic Autonomy in Critical Raw Materials

(IN BRIEF) METLEN Energy & Metals’ bauxite project in Ghana has been recognized as a flagship initiative under the European Union’s Global Gateway program for 2025. This strategic investment aims to enhance Europe’s autonomy in critical raw materials and support the green transition by addressing global demand for bauxite and alumina. Located in Ghana’s Ninayhin–Mpasaaso region, the project is estimated to hold 300 million tons of bauxite reserves. Currently in the scoping study phase, the project aligns with the EU’s goals of strengthening supply chains and reducing dependency on external suppliers. As the EU’s only fully vertically integrated producer of bauxite, alumina, and primary aluminum, METLEN continues to play a key role in supporting sustainable resource management and advancing Europe’s competitiveness.

(PRESS RELEASE) ATHENS, 9-Dec-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Metlen Energy & Metals “METLEN” (OTCMKTS: MYTHY), a leading global industrial and energy company with a strong presence in all five continents covering two business Sectors, the Energy Sector and the Metallurgy Sector, has received a significant boost for its bauxite exploration and exploitation project in Ghana, with its inclusion in the European Union’s Global Gateway flagship initiatives for 2025. This recognition underscores the strategic importance of METLEN’s work in securing sustainable raw material supplies, fostering international collaboration, and enhancing Europe’s autonomy in critical resources like bauxite and aluminum.

The European Union’s Global Gateway program supports investments in sectors such as energy, transportation, health, and education across non-EU regions, with Africa and the Western Balkans as key focus areas for 2025. METLEN’s project is one of 46 initiatives blending public and private investment to drive the green transition, bolster supply chains, and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The “Integrated Bauxite and Aluminum Project in Ghana” aligns closely with the EU’s strategic objectives to ensure access to essential raw materials and reduce dependency on external suppliers. With demand for bauxite and alumina outstripping global supply, the project in Ghana’s Ninayhin–Mpasaaso region is set to play a pivotal role. Geological estimates suggest that the area holds approximately 300 million tons of bauxite reserves.

METLEN is currently conducting scoping studies for the project, expected to be completed by 2025. These studies will inform the next steps in developing the site, which aims to ensure sustainable and strategic resource management.

As the EU’s only fully vertically integrated producer of bauxite, alumina, and primary aluminum, METLEN plays a central role in strengthening the resilience of European supply chains and reducing dependence on external suppliers. The company’s operations support the local aluminum industry while contributing to Europe’s competitiveness and green transition goals.

With its investment in Ghana, METLEN is reinforcing its commitment to diversifying supply sources globally while advancing sustainability and securing Europe’s position as a leader in critical raw materials. This project not only strengthens METLEN’s portfolio but also exemplifies the EU’s vision for strategic partnerships and sustainable development in non-EU regions.
