Messer to Use BASF’s OASE® Blue Technology for CO2 Recovery Plant in Austria

(IN BRIEF) Industrial gases specialist, Messer, plans to launch a CO2 recovery plant in Austria in 2024, using BASF’s OASE® blue technology to recover CO2 from an industrial company’s flue gas. The recovered CO2 will be refined to food grade quality and supplied to customers in Western Austria, South Tyrol, Eastern Switzerland, and Bavaria, improving supply reliability. Messer will use recovery and purification processes to refine the CO2 and make it available for reuse in the food industry. The new technology enables Messer to offer increased supply reliability to its customers.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUDWIGSHAFEN/ BAD SODEN, 10-May-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —  BASF (ETR: BAS), the world’s largest chemical producer, announces that Messer, the world’s largest privately held industrial gases specialist, has unveiled its plans to launch a carbon dioxide (CO2) recovery plant in Austria in early 2024. The recovered CO2 will be obtained from flue gas of an industrial company using BASF’s OASE® blue technology.

Messer plans to use recovery and purification processes to refine the gas into food-grade quality and make it available for reuse. The recovered CO2 will be supplied to customers in Western Austria, South Tyrol, Eastern Switzerland, and Bavaria, where Messer already supplies many customers with CO2. By using shorter routes to supply liquid CO2 by tank truck, Messer can meet customer demand even better. CO2 is a raw material in demand in the food industry, and the new technology enables Messer to offer increased supply reliability to its customers.
