Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 Named “International Truck of the Year 2025” for Long-Distance Innovation

(IN BRIEF) The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 has been named “International Truck of the Year 2025” by commercial vehicle journalists from 24 European countries. The electric truck was praised for its advanced aerodynamics, powerful drivetrain, and a range of 500 kilometers without charging. Tested across 15,000 kilometers in 22 countries, the eActros 600 impressed with its efficiency, performance, and smooth handling. This win marks the tenth time Mercedes-Benz Trucks has claimed the prestigious award, reflecting its leadership in electric vehicle innovation for long-distance haulage.

(PRESS RELEASE) STUTTGART/HANOVER, 17-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Mercedes-Benz has achieved a major milestone in electric vehicle technology as its eActros 600 was awarded the prestigious title of “International Truck of the Year 2025” by a panel of commercial vehicle journalists from 24 European countries. The battery-electric truck, designed specifically for long-distance haulage, impressed the jury with its advanced aerodynamics, powerful electric drivetrain, and an operational range of 500 kilometers without the need for intermediate charging.

The eActros 600, equipped with a high-capacity 621 kWh battery system, was tested in real-world conditions during the “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024,” which covered over 15,000 kilometers across 22 countries. The jury praised the truck’s innovative design, particularly its aerodynamics, which play a critical role in extending range and improving efficiency for long-haul applications.

Karin Rådström, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, accepted the award, highlighting the tireless work of the team behind the eActros 600. The truck’s powerful drivetrain, which produces up to 600 kW, and its smooth handling were key factors in securing this top industry accolade.

As the world moves towards sustainable transport solutions, Mercedes-Benz is setting new standards with the eActros 600, offering not just cutting-edge vehicle technology, but a complete transportation solution that includes consulting, infrastructure, and support services. This marks the tenth time Mercedes-Benz Trucks has claimed the International Truck of the Year title, underscoring its leadership in commercial vehicle innovation.

About the eActros 600

The eActros 600 for long-distance haulage celebrated its world premiere end of 2023. The high battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt hours[3] – hence the model designation 600 – and a new, particularly efficient electric drive axle developed in-house enable the electric truck to achieve a range of 500 kilometers[4] without intermediate charging. This range is accomplished under very realistic and practical conditions with a gross combination mass of 40 tons, and can also be significantly exceeded depending on the driving style and route. The eActros 600 will even be able to cover well over 1,000 kilometers per day. Intermediate charging during statutory driver breaks – even without megawatt charging – makes this possible, provided that charging options are available. In addition to CCS charging with up to 400 kW, the eActros 600 will later also enable megawatt charging (MCS).

Visually, the long-haul electric truck is characterized by a fundamentally new, minimalist design with clear lines and an aerodynamic shape. In terms of profitability for fleet operators, the electric truck will set new standards and replace the majority of diesel trucks in the important long-distance transport segment in the long term. The core of the Mercedes-Benz Trucks concept for battery-powered long-distance haulage is to offer customers a holistic transportation solution comprising vehicle technology, consulting, a charging infrastructure, and services with the new TruckCharge brand. Mercedes-Benz Trucks will celebrate the start of series production of the eActros 600 at the end of November this year at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth. The first eActros 600 customer vehicles will be manufactured and registered before the end of 2024.

[1] The range was determined internally under specific test conditions, after preconditioning with a 4×2 semitrailer tractor with 40 tons gross combination mass at 20°C outside temperature in long-distance haulage operation, and may deviate from the values determined in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2017/2400.
