Media Pioneer Launches Pioneer Three as Floating Finance Newsroom and Community Hub in Frankfurt

Media Pioneer Launches Pioneer Three as Floating Finance Newsroom and Community Hub in Frankfurt

(IN BRIEF) Media Pioneer is investing more than €40 million in Pioneer Three, a new floating newsroom and community hub in Frankfurt that will expand The Pioneer’s financial journalism and capital markets coverage. The vessel will be around 80 metres long, offer more than 1,000 square metres of usable space and be significantly larger than The Pioneer One and The Pioneer Two. The project will be financed through operating cash flow, debt financing and expanded equity participation by reader-shareholders. Pioneer Three will include a Finance Desk, financial literacy and capital markets education facilities, and event space for up to 400 guests. The expansion reflects The Pioneer’s focus on addressing Germany’s financial literacy and investment gap, as more people engage with capital markets through digital platforms while large volumes of private wealth remain in low-yield cash and savings accounts. The company will also launch Frontrunners, a free daily financial markets podcast hosted by Gabor Steingart and the Pioneer Investment Team.

(PRESS RELEASE) BERLIN, 13-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Media Pioneer is expanding its presence to Frankfurt with the launch of Pioneer Three, a new floating newsroom and community hub dedicated to financial journalism, capital markets education and public dialogue.

The project represents the largest investment in the company’s history, with more than €40 million committed to the development of the new media vessel. Pioneer Three will be around 80 metres long and offer more than 1,000 square metres of usable space, making it significantly larger than The Pioneer One and The Pioneer Two.

The new vessel will become part of The Pioneer’s media fleet and will strengthen the company’s coverage of business, finance and markets from Frankfurt, one of Europe’s most important financial centres.

Media Pioneer plans to finance the project through a combination of operating cash flow, debt financing and expanded equity participation by reader-shareholders.

The expansion comes as The Pioneer increases its editorial focus on financial literacy, investment culture and capital markets. The company points to the large amount of private wealth in Germany that remains in checking accounts, savings accounts or cash holdings, where inflation can erode purchasing power over time.

At the same time, Germany’s investment culture is changing. Neo-brokers and digital investment platforms have made capital markets more accessible, while younger generations are increasingly investing and taking greater responsibility for wealth creation and retirement planning.

The Pioneer said this shift creates a journalistic responsibility to explain economic developments, investment issues and capital markets in a clear and accessible way.

In recent years, the media brand has expanded its business and finance journalism through analysis, podcasts and specialised briefings. Its contributors include former German Finance Minister Jörg Kukies, Professor Dr Justus Haucap, Professor Dr Lars Feld and Professor Dr Veronika Grimm.

The expansion will begin before Pioneer Three is completed. Starting Monday, The Pioneer will launch Frontrunners, a new free daily podcast hosted by Gabor Steingart and the Pioneer Investment Team. The format will provide concise analysis of developments across international financial markets for listeners interested in business, investing, financial markets and wealth creation.

Pioneer Three will place part of The Pioneer newsroom in Frankfurt, close to the institutions and companies shaping European monetary policy, financial regulation and capital markets.

The vessel will include a dedicated Finance Desk, enabling journalists to report directly from the centre of Europe’s financial ecosystem. It will also include facilities for educational programmes designed to improve financial literacy and broaden understanding of capital markets.

In addition, Pioneer Three will include event space for up to 400 guests, creating a meeting place for business leaders, policymakers, academics, readers and members of The Pioneer community.

Gabor Steingart, Founder of Media Pioneer and Publisher of The Pioneer, said the new project is built around the idea that financial freedom depends on understanding and entrepreneurial thinking.

“With Pioneer Three, we are creating a place in Frankfurt where economic developments can be explained, debated, and, when necessary, challenged,” said Steingart. “Our mission is the democratization of capitalism. Just as literacy was once the key to social advancement, financial literacy is essential today.”

He added that independent journalism has a central role to play in helping people understand capitalism, markets and economic change.

Since its founding in 2018, Media Pioneer has grown from a startup into one of Germany’s profitable digital media companies. Within six years, the company reached annual revenue of €21.1 million and an EBITDA margin of more than 20%.

The Pioneer now reaches up to one million people every morning, while 75,000 paying subscribers rely on its journalism and analysis.

With Pioneer Three, Media Pioneer is entering a new phase of growth. By 2032, the company aims to more than double revenue, increase its subscriber base to over 200,000 and triple EBITDA.

Paul Horlacher, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Board member of Media Pioneer, said the company has shown that independent journalism at the intersection of politics and business can operate as a sustainable digital business funded directly by readers.

“Pioneer Three is not a leap into the unknown,” said Horlacher. “It is the next logical step built on a strong and profitable foundation. We are investing in our journalistic future, expanding our offering, and creating the conditions to reach even more people with meaningful reporting and analysis.”
