The company, which is the market leader in pistons for high-speed ferries and a supplier to leading engine manufacturers, is displaying its largest serial-production marine piston, measuring 65 cm high, 51 cm in diameter and weighing around 300 kg. The technology group is presenting a Power Cell Unit (PCU) and a large-bore marine piston at the international shipbuilding and maritime technology trade fair, taking place in Hamburg from 1 to 4 September 2026.

MAHLE is exhibiting in Hall A3, Booth 222.

With decades of experience developing and manufacturing key components for marine propulsion systems, MAHLE is a major supplier to leading engine manufacturers worldwide and the market leader in pistons for high-speed ferries.

The company said it is building on this expertise and market position to further expand its activities in the maritime sector.

Power Cell Unit for marine and power generation applications

One of the key technologies on display is MAHLE’s Power Cell Unit.

The PCU is used in applications including ferries, work boats and power-generation systems aboard large ships.

It consists of a piston, piston pin, piston rings and cylinder liner.

The interaction between these components is designed to deliver a high level of functionality and efficiency within the propulsion or power-generation system.

MAHLE displays its largest serial-production marine piston

Another highlight of the SMM exhibition is a large-bore piston for marine engines.

The component measures approximately 65 centimetres in height, has a diameter of 51 centimetres and weighs around 300 kilograms.

It forms part of a Power Cell Unit and is the largest serial-production marine piston in MAHLE’s portfolio.

As the world’s largest piston manufacturer, MAHLE offers a broad portfolio that includes cast and electron-beam welded aluminium pistons as well as composite pistons with aluminium, cast-iron or steel skirts.

The company works closely with manufacturers across the maritime, rail, industrial and power-generation sectors to further develop components and systems for modern and efficient propulsion solutions.

Maritime business strengthened within new division

Maritime applications form an important part of MAHLE’s industrial business.

The company has consolidated these activities within its new Industrial and Special Solutions division as part of efforts to strengthen customer focus and accelerate the development of tailored solutions.

MAHLE said closer integration between sales, engineering and operational functions will also enable the company to use its existing capacities and resources more efficiently.
