Maersk Sells St. Petersburg and Novorossiysk Sites to IG Finance Development

(IN BRIEF) Maersk has reached an agreement to sell its logistics sites in St. Petersburg and Novorossiysk to IG Finance Development Limited. The sale comes as part of Maersk’s decision in March 2022 to discontinue its operations in Russia. The two facilities, a Novorossiysk inland depot and a St. Petersburg chilled and frozen warehouse, will now be operated by Arosa, a major food importer in Russia, in a deal that has received regulatory approval in both the EU and Russia. The divestment became effective on 17 February 2023.

(PRESS RELEASE) COPENHAGEN, 20-Feb-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — A.P. Moller – Maersk (CPH: MAERSK-B), a global leader in container shipping, announces that it has signed an agreement to sell its logistics sites in St. Petersburg and Novorossiysk to IG Finance Development Limited. The decision to divest the two facilities is part of Maersk’s resolution in March 2022 to discontinue its operations in Russia.

The Novorossiysk inland depot covers 28,750 square meters and has a capacity of 1,500 containers (TEU), specializing in handling commercial cargo such as grains from railway wagons to sea containers. The St. Petersburg chilled and frozen warehouse, which was established in 2020, has an area of 23,500 square meters.

“We are pleased to have found a new owner of our two logistics sites in Russia and thereby execute on our decision to divest all our assets in the country. Throughout the divestment process, we have as a company felt a strong responsibility towards the remaining 50 employees at the two sites, and we are happy that they will be offered employment as part of the new setup,” commented Karsten Kildahl, Chief Commercial Officer of Maersk.

The transaction has received regulatory approval in both the EU and Russia, and upon acquiring the facilities, IG Finance Development Limited has entered into an agreement with Arosa, a major food importer in Russia, to operate the St. Petersburg and Novorossiysk sites.

As no additional authorizations are necessary, the divestment was concluded on 17 February 2023 and is now in effect.
