A EUR 5.6 million contract was awarded to Kapsch TrafficCom in early 2024 to integrate, maintain, and upgrade the city’s traffic management platform. (PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 25-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The city of Madrid has launched a cutting-edge mobility management system, leveraging EcoTrafiX and the Mobility Data Platform by Kapsch TrafficCom to optimize traffic control across 3,000 intersections. This advanced software solution replaces Madrid’s previous system, offering greater scalability and flexibility to meet future transportation challenges.

As part of the city’s efforts to modernize its traffic management, Madrid awarded Kapsch TrafficCom a contract in early 2024 to provide a platform that integrates and manages various traffic control systems. The agreement also covers the provision of necessary hardware and the ongoing maintenance of the city’s traffic control center. With a project budget of EUR 5.6 million, the initiative marks a significant step toward improving the sustainability, efficiency, and resilience of Madrid’s urban mobility. The platform’s first version is set to go live by October 2025, with the project contract spanning three years and two potential one-year extensions.

Javier Aguirre, Managing Director of Kapsch TrafficCom for Spain and Portugal, highlighted the importance of the project: “Our EcoTrafiX platform ensures that the city is not only equipped for current demands but also ready for future mobility challenges. We are proud to continue our 45-year partnership with Madrid, contributing to improvements like the first Bus Rapid Transit line and the expansion of the low-emission zone.”

In addition to the software, Kapsch TrafficCom has implemented EcoTrafiX technology across over 1,000 intersections in eastern Madrid, further enhancing the city’s traffic management capabilities. Notably, this project marks the first time in Europe that EcoTrafiX has been used as an integrated platform for managing multi-supplier systems.
