Lufthansa Group continues its successful cooperation with Naturschutzbund Deutschland e.V. (NABU)

Group continues decades of commitment to protecting its heraldic animal

COLOGNE, 22-Feb-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — The Lufthansa Group is continuing its successful cooperation with NABU (Naturschutzbund Deutschland e.V.). As a partner of Kranichschutz Deutschland gGmbH (Crane Protection Germany), the Group will continue to work to protect endangered bird species in the future. The partners are building on joint successes in recent years, such as the construction of the barrier-free crane observation station KRANORAMA on Lake Günzer or the NABU crane centre in Groß Mohrdorf.

Andreas Bartels, Head of Lufthansa Group Communications: “The crane is a symbol of Lufthansa’s values. We will continue to work to protect the cranes and are pleased that we can put our cooperation with NABU on a new footing.”

Leif Miller, NABU’s Federal Managing Director: “Lufthansa’s commitment to its trademark, the crane – that fits well together. We are very pleased to be able to continue our long-standing cooperation and look forward to the upcoming projects with great interest. In doing so, we want to link the existing potential of both sides even more closely together in order to further improve the protection of these elegant migratory birds.”

The promotion of nature and species protection has a long tradition at Lufthansa. This applies in particular to cranes that Lufthansa has been committed to protecting since the 1980s. In 1991, the Crane Protection Germany working group was founded together with West and East German crane protectors, the first Germany-wide initiative for the protection of cranes. Five years later, the non-profit Kranichschutz Deutschland gGmbH emerged from it. This was initially managed by the WWF Germany and NABU as joint shareholders, and since 2017 the NABU has been the sole shareholder.
