London Stock Exchange Expands Digital Market Infrastructure With Planned LSE 24 Venue

(IN BRIEF) London Stock Exchange has announced plans to launch LSE 24, a new 24/5 trading venue designed to support digital, algorithmic and agentic trading. The venue will operate separately from the London Stock Exchange’s Main Market and is intended to give global investors more flexibility to trade outside traditional UK market hours, respond to events across time zones and access liquidity more continuously. Client testing is expected by the end of 2026, with Exchange Traded Products planned as the first asset class in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval. LSE 24 will combine elements of central limit order book and request-for-quote functionality, with the potential to expand into equities later. The venue will also connect with LSEG’s digital markets infrastructure and, subject to approvals, its Digital Securities Depository, supporting the digitisation of issuance, settlement and asset servicing.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 21-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — London Stock Exchange has announced plans to launch London Stock Exchange 24, or LSE 24, a new trading venue designed to support near-continuous trading from Monday to Friday.

The planned venue is being developed to meet the needs of a new generation of digital, algorithmic and agentic trading, giving global investors more flexibility to respond to market events, access liquidity across different time zones and manage risk outside the traditional UK trading day.

LSE 24 will be built on LSEG’s established financial market infrastructure and will operate separately from the London Stock Exchange’s Main Market.

The Main Market will continue to operate under its existing trading hours, while LSE 24 will complement current market structures by extending access without changing the resilience and integrity of regular trading hours.

London Stock Exchange said the new venue will be available for client testing by the end of 2026.

Subject to regulatory approval, Exchange Traded Products will be the first asset class to launch on LSE 24 in the first half of 2027.

LSE said ETPs are a natural starting point because of London’s established role as a leading international hub for exchange traded products and strong global demand for instruments that provide efficient access to markets worldwide.

The venue is expected to combine elements of a central limit order book with request-for-quote functionality, supporting price transparency and on-demand liquidity.

LSE 24 will also have the flexibility to expand into equities as a future step.

Julia Hoggett, Chief Executive Officer of LSE plc and Head of Digital and Securities Markets at LSEG, said the launch marks an important stage in the evolution of London’s markets.

“The launch of LSE 24 marks an important step in the evolution of our markets, providing clients with greater flexibility beyond traditional trading hours and supporting more digital, connected global markets,” said Hoggett.

She added that, by integrating with LSEG’s digital markets infrastructure, LSE 24 will help support deeper liquidity, greater efficiency and broader participation.

Hoggett said the initiative will reinforce London’s position as a leading global financial centre.

LSE 24 is also being designed to enable secure native connectivity for future agent-based trading capabilities.

This connectivity will allow clients to interact with market data, order management and execution workflows in more automated and intuitive ways, while maintaining the governance, resilience and controls of a regulated market.

By combining extended-hours access with agentic connectivity, the venue is intended to support the next generation of market participation as trading becomes more digital, automated and globally connected.

Subject to regulatory approvals, LSE 24 will also make use of LSEG’s Digital Securities Depository, which is currently being developed with active market engagement.

The Digital Securities Depository is intended to provide the foundation for the digitisation of issuance, settlement and asset servicing, supporting wider reach for LSE 24.

LSEG said the DSD will expand across different asset classes in response to client demand and will enable new market functionalities.

The Group also plans to interoperate with other market participants as part of wider efforts to shape market evolution and accelerate adoption.

LSE 24 is expected to operate from 17:00 to 07:50, with a 30-minute pause between 18:30 and 19:00 to apply end-of-day processes.

Trading on the London Stock Exchange’s Main Market will continue between 08:00 and 16:30.
