(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 23-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Lloyds Banking Group has become the first FTSE 100 company to introduce Signly, a service that provides British Sign Language (BSL) translations, on its job search webpages. This initiative reflects the Group’s continued focus on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, specifically by improving access for d/Deaf individuals who rely on BSL.

Signly allows users to access website content in BSL, and if a page hasn’t been translated yet, users can request a translation. Within a week, a BSL version, delivered by qualified translators, will be made available for free to d/Deaf users. Lloyds Banking Group was the first bank to roll out Signly across its main websites, including Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland, and Halifax. Now, this service has been extended to job search pages, making recruitment more inclusive.

This initiative supports the diverse literacy needs of d/Deaf individuals, particularly those who use BSL as their first or primary language, helping to overcome challenges that arise from text-heavy websites.

Tim Scannell, Ambassador at Signly, praised Lloyds for closing the accessibility gap for sign language users, while Rachel Osikoya, Lloyds Banking Group’s Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, highlighted the importance of providing tailored support to ensure access to information for all. This initiative further demonstrates Lloyds’ commitment to equal employment opportunities and creating an inclusive environment for all.

A BSL version of this press release is available on the Lloyds Banking Group website.
