LEMMINKÄINEN WINS DAM PROJECT IN SWEDEN

7-1-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — Lemminkäinen has won a contract to seal a dam in the Swedish province of Västerbotten. The dam is located on the River Vojmån, an outlet of Lake Vojmsjön, about 40 kilometres north of the Vilhelmina Municipality. The client is Ångermanälvens Vattenregleringsföretag, the company in charge of regulating water flow in the River Ångerma, and is worth about EUR 2.3 million. Work will begin in February 2013 and is scheduled for completion in summer 2013.

A drilled RD pile wall will be used to seal the dam. The installation of about 4,000 metres of tongue-and-groove pipe will ensure that the pile wall is watertight. A specialised water-driven down-the-hole hammer will be used to minimise environmental impact.

The dam has a high risk rating. The sealing project seeks to increase the safety of the dam.”Lemminkäinen has already implemented several projects aimed at improving dam safety in Sweden. We believe this to be the first of many dam sealing projects that we will implement using this method,” says Lemminkäinen’s Jouko Viitala, Director, Foundations and Geotechnical Engineering.
