Lagardère’s subsidiary SPORTFIVE declared The Orange Africa Cup of Nations, SOUTH AFRICA 2013 great success in terms media coverage

25-7-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — The Orange Africa Cup of Nations, SOUTH AFRICA 2013, which ran from January 19th until February 11th, was a great success in terms media coverage. The number of hours of international coverage on partner TV channels rose by 33% between 2012 and 2013, enabling the Orange Africa Cup of Nations to consolidate its position as Africa’s premier sporting event and bolster its credentials as one of the world’s most attractive events.

This success was achieved through a major increase in Africa (up 43.8%), triggered by successful partnerships with the South African channels in particular. Significant growth (up 15.4%) was also recorded in South America. The 2013 event was broadcast in 141 countries overall. The more extensive media coverage had highly positive implications for the event’s sponsors. The media value of the 2013 tournament rose by 145% compared to the previous year’s event. The media value of the competition in Africa and in the Middle East accounted for 83% of its total media value.
