This customer had a unique request – the delivery of approximately 150 pallets of flu vaccines to over 40 Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals across the United States within a tight timeframe of less than ten days. These vaccines required special care and refrigeration, presenting a complex logistical challenge.

Without hesitation, the Kuehne+Nagel Road Logistics team accepted this critical mission. Driven by the knowledge that these flu vaccines could potentially save lives and make a genuine impact on the veterans who had bravely served our nation, our team sprang into action.

Leveraging the expertise of our Road Logistics specialists, who excel in crafting complex road logistics solutions, we devised a unique operation resembling a “milk run.” This operation optimized equipment utilization and reduced overall costs by utilizing a multi-stop lane based on geography and distance.

In just 36 hours after the initial customer call, the Road Logistics team coordinated with three different carriers to collect over 150 pallets of vaccines from 14 locations in Georgia, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. These vaccines were carefully transported in 14 temperature-controlled trucks to ensure their integrity throughout the journey.

By Friday afternoon, Kuehne+Nagel had accomplished the remarkable feat of making 42 deliveries to 20 states, providing flu shots to over half a million military veterans and their families across the nation. Thanks to the exceptional teamwork and expertise of our Road Logistics team, this seemingly impossible task was achieved, and VA hospitals received the flu vaccines they urgently required.
