K+S Aktiengesellschaft supports Fulda German Red Cross with refugee accommodation

KASSEL, Germany, 20-Jan-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — K+S Aktiengesellschaft is supporting the Fulda German Red Cross (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz) District Association with a targeted donation in the development of a refugee accommodation. Six office containers have been procured in a company purchase, which are now being used in refugee accommodation for social work and integration in the former construction market at Fulda’s Kreuzberg Street and in the Großenlüder municipality. On Tuesday 19 January 2016, K+S Board of Executive Directors Member Dr. Andreas Radmacher symbolically handed over the donation worth about 36,000 euros to Professor Martin Hessmann, President of the Fulda German Red Cross District Association, and to Christoph Schwab, Managing Director of the Fulda German Red Cross.

“To help overcome the influx of refugees, K+S is trying to support relief organizations and authorities with very targeted operations”, said Dr. Radmacher. As a result of the know-how employed in the company purchase in procuring materials, precisely those means which are really needed have been made available rapidly and without complications to the Fulda German Red Cross. Kassel Regional Council drew our attention to this problem. “As a result of K+S’ support, we are able to perform the immensely important work of social integration in a major accommodation project,” said Fulda German Red Cross Managing Director Schwab. “That’s not at all an obvious thing.” K+S’ help was also useful because containers of all kinds at the market are currently hard to get. The initial reception center at Kreuzberg Street in Fulda is designed for a total of 1,100 people, and in Großenlüder there is room for up to 300 people.

The support for the Fulda German Red Cross is a further contribution to K+S’ comprehensive help to immigrants. The city of Kassel received similar support in December, with tools and building materials being made available to provide accommodation. K+S and the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kassel provided a transporter to the German Red Cross as a “mobile clothing store”, which has been in operation since October. Also, K+S made available, on full pay, employees working on a voluntary basis in relief organizations and volunteer fire departments, to help the refugees for up to two weeks. In the meantime, several K+S plants have provided company property for refugee accommodation.
