New CEO will focus on plugging customers’ skills gap

(PRESS RELEASE) OSLO, 3-Jun-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — Kenneth Vareide will lead DNV GL’s Digital Solutions business practice. DNV GL’s Digital Solutions offer solutions for managing risk and improving asset performance. DNV GL’s Digital Solutions relies on 1,000 digital experts and the department’s services are used primarily by the oil & gas, energy, renewable and maritime industries. Kenneth Vareide has been with DNV GL since 1996  and he joined the company as as a trainee. Most recently Vareide, held the position of Digital Director in Maritime’s business area.

Digital Solutions is one of DNV GL’s business areas the company is active in, along with Maritime, Oil & Gas, Energy and Business Assurance.

Commenting on his appointment, Kenneth Vareide, said:

The digitalization was pointed at as the leading R&D priority by oil & gas executives in a recent survey by DNV GL while the lack of relevant skills was identified as the biggest barrier. At the same time 9 out of 10 executives in the energy value chain, surveyed in DNV GL’s Digitalization and the future of energy, said that further digital skills training is needed.

Well known and established software such as Sesam, Nauticus and Synergi, is coming from DNV GL’s Digital Solutions and the business area will continue to grow its portfolio of software-as-a-service products.

DNV GL’s data platform and industry ecosystem, Veracity, is also part of DNV GL’s Digital Solutions. Veracity boasts some 160 000 activated users and has already registered 1.2 million service subscriptions since its inception in 2017 and it acts as a secure repository for data and allows companies to access services from DNV GL or verified third parties.

Since Kenneth Vareide joined DNV GL as trainee in 1996 he served in different positions and capacities across DNV GL’s business areas and regions (Houston, London, Busan and Høvik), providing classification, technical and management advisory services to the maritime and oil and gas industries. Vareide holds a master’s degree in Naval Architecture from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and a master’s degree in Technology Management from NTNU and the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH Bergen), in cooperation with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), The Sloan School of Management.
