Karstadt creates a new shopping experience at its new department store at the Gropius Passagen shopping mall in Berlin

On 25 October 2018, Karstadt is opening a new department store at the Gropius Passagen shopping mall in Berlin, driving its development forward. Size and concept of the new branch have been precisely tailored to the local needs, and Karstadt signed a long-term rental agreement. Together with its outlet in Berlin-Tegel, scheduled to open in 2019/20, the Karstadt branch network has increased to nine department stores.

ESSEN, 30-Oct-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — Stefan Fanderl, CEO of Karstadt, explains: “At the Gropius Passagen, we have created a completely new shopping experience, individually tailored to its location where in-store products are closely combined with online collections. This location has a huge socio-demographic development potential, and we are expecting a strong increase in spending power. Our customers not only come from the immediate vicinity but also from the rapidly growing surrounding communities.”

The new Karstadt branch at the Gropius Passagen covers a sales area of about 7,900 square metres on three floors. From modern shop fitting to the use of digital information platforms – in the new department store, shopping will be a unique experience. All staff members will use mobile devices in order to meet customer requirements even better, and all over the branch there will be digital information points, to name just one example. This means that customers can browse the product range of the branch and of karstadt.de on large screens, with or without a member of staff to help them. Products can also be ordered for home delivery or they can be picked up in any of our Berlin branch.

In addition to the branch at the Gropius Passagen, a further department store has been scheduled for 2019/20 in Berlin-Tegel. The two new stores extend the Karstadt branch network in Berlin to the south and the north, strengthening the market position of the company in the metropolis in the long term.
