Karl-Ludwig Kley to succeed Werner Wenning as E.ON Supervisory Board Chairman

Werner Wenning to step down as Supervisory Board Chairman after the Annual General Meeting, Karl-Ludwig Kley proposed as successor

Düsseldorf, 09-Mar-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — The Supervisory Board Chairman of E.ON SE, Werner Wenning, will end his service at the end of the E.ON’s Annual General Meeting on June 8th. He has served as Member of the Supervisory Board since April 2008 and as its Chairman since May 2010. The Supervisory Board Nomination Committee is proposing Karl-Ludwig Kley as his successor on the Supervisory Board and as Supervisory Board Chairman. Kley is currently the Chairman of the Executive Board & CEO of Merck of Merck KGaA. He will leave the company at the end of April.

“Over the past five years I have been able to play my part in repositioning E.ON for the future. The Uniper spin-off and the strategic realignment represent an important turning point for E.ON, and for me this is the right time to pass on the responsibility to somebody else,” Wenning said stating the reasons for his decision.

Under the leadership of Werner Wenning, the Supervisory Board adopted the new strategic alignment in November 2014 and appointed the members of the management boards of the two companies. The Annual Shareholders Meeting will also shortly receive recommendations concerning the future composition of the Supervisory Board. “We have thus set the course for the future of the Group. I am convinced that with this strategic realignment E.ON has embarked on the right path towards the future,” Wenning emphasized.

Karl-Ludwig Kley has been successfully leading Merck KGaA for 10 years. Prior to that he served as Chief Financial Officer of Lufthansa and held various management positions at Bayer. “Karl-Ludwig Kley is a prominent German business leader who is thoroughly familiar with the structures of large organizations. I am delighted that he is available to tackle the challenges at E.ON,” Wenning said.
