(PRESS RELEASE) VIENNA, 28-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Kapsch TrafficCom has been awarded a 10-year contract extension by the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) to continue providing toll services and improving traffic flow in one of the busiest regions in the United States. The extension follows Kapsch TrafficCom’s successful delivery of advanced tolling operations over the past seven years, managing 45 million trips annually across Southern California’s SR-91 and I-15 Express Lanes.

This extended agreement ensures that Kapsch TrafficCom will continue to deliver comprehensive toll services for RCTC through 2041, covering roadside toll operations, maintenance, and customer support for the Riverside Express toll program. Spanning 25 miles, the project includes oversight of the SR-91 and I-15 Express Lanes and the integration of the 15/91 Express Lanes Connector into the system.

“We’re excited to extend our collaboration with RCTC and further enhance travel experiences for the public in Southern California,” said JB Kendrick, President of Kapsch TrafficCom North America. “This extension through 2041 reflects our commitment to providing advanced technology, industry expertise, and exceptional service to improve traffic conditions in the region.”

Innovative Tolling Solutions in Riverside County

Under this contract extension, Kapsch TrafficCom will continue managing and refining an end-to-end tolling and traffic management system. Originally initiated in 2017, the project led to the opening of the I-15 Express Lanes in 2021, with final acceptance achieved in 2022. The updated contract scope includes the replacement of the SR-91 Express Lanes roadside tolling system and ongoing operation and maintenance of the entire network.

The Kapsch TrafficCom system integrates cutting-edge technology, including variable message signs, CCTV cameras for enforcement, and microwave vehicle detectors. The company also manages dynamic pricing, a back-office system, image review, collections enforcement, and runs customer service centers.

Jennifer Crosson, Toll Operations Director at RCTC, praised the partnership, stating, “Kapsch TrafficCom has been a vital partner, bringing a deep understanding of our needs and delivering one of the nation’s most complex toll systems. Their technology, reliability, and commitment to excellent service have been instrumental in enhancing our tolling infrastructure, and we look forward to working together through 2041.”

With Riverside County being the 4th most populous in California and the 10th in the United States, this project plays a critical role in improving mobility within the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. The continued partnership aims to further optimize traffic flow and offer a seamless travel experience for millions of drivers across the region. The contract extension is expected to be fully in place by early 2025, pending final regulatory approvals.
